Brandy D2021-80 ****ADOPTED***

Brandy

****PLEASE READ THE FULL WRITE UP BEFORE APPLYING****

EX BREEDING DOG EXPERIENCE DESIRABLE

PATIEND, CALM OWNERS HOME MOST OF THE TIME

NO CHILDREN

RESIDENT DOG OR DOGS A MUST

Brandy is a 6 year old Shih tzu female that has spent most of her life as an ex breeding bitch on a farm making her very wary of humans. She is not keen on being touched and would rather avoid all contact with you. She’s comfortable being in the same room as you and is happy to relax on a dog bed or on the windowsill watching the world go by. In the short time she’s been with her foster family she has made great progress but still has a way to go. She gets very excited at food time and bounces around wagging her tail. She lives in a multi dog household and has picked her favourite dog, a Springer spaniel, and follows him around the house and garden learning from him on how to be a dog.

Brandy is very nervous and prefers to explore the house and garden on her own and interacting with the other with dogs. She will run if you get too close or try to pick her up but is happy to lay in a dog bed or on the sofa in the same room as her humans. Sometimes it takes some dogs longer than others to adjust to being a pet but the signs are encouraging and she just needs time and patience.

Due to Brandy being nervous of touch Brandy will need an adult only home

Brandy loves being with other dogs and would need at least one other dog in her forever home. She has taken a particular liking to a spaniel in her foster home and follows him around so size doesn’t worry her.

She has not been cat tested but we can’t see there being a problem

Brandy is starting to show signs of play with the other dogs in her foster home and loves her food. She is toilet trained and happy to be left for a few hours with another dog for company.

Brandy is currently too nervous for lead walks as she is petrified of being caught and would bolt given the chance. Adopters would need to be happy to not push her and let her learn at her own pace.

Brandy would suit a quiet home with patient humans who are happy to take a back seat and let her develop at her own pace. Puppy farm experience would be preferable. She is a sweet girl who just isn’t quite ready to fully relax and trust yet. Brandy will need a soft crate for transport to make sure she is secure and can’t escape.

Neutered Female

Microchipped, vaccinated and up to date flea and wormer

Fostered in the Pontypridd are of South Wales

Brandy will come with 5 weeks free Agria pet insurance

Eggnog, Phoebe(mum) and Sprout.

Phoebe came in before Christmas, she had already had two babies and was pregnant again. She gave birth to 5 babies on Christmas morning hence the festive names 🎅😁

She’s happily bonded with her daughters Eggnog and Sprout. She wouldn’t be able to be bonded with any other pigs because she is quite naughty and likes to tell them off! She’s very confident and loves a pea flake 🍃Eggnog and Sprout are double trouble, they spend most of their time together. They love their food and spend the majority of their days popcorning 🙂❤🙂

They are long-haired guinea pigs and will need regular grooming. You will be required to provide a run at least 9ft x2ft with plenty of hiding places and enrichment activities with time out of the run every day. To adopt these 3 beauties fill in the form below. The adoption fee is £60

Emergency COVID19 Vet Fee Appeal

Emergency COVID19 Vet Fee Appeal

We have kept our doors open and continued to help as many animals as possible during the COVID19 crisis. There has never been a greater need for our rescue to work with the most damaged animals but there is a huge financial cost.

We have helped nearly 200 dogs this year, plus many cats and rabbits, so many of whom have needed very expensive veterinary treatment.

We have only been able to do this because of the generosity of our supporters and the hard work of our volunteers who have been fundraising and selling goods online, as well as virtual sponsored events and much more.

We are now back in lockdown so are shops are yet again closed, still no events so we are still asking for your support to enable us to keep on helping the animals who need us.

Wonky Bus Appeal

Our previous big van has left us to transport dogs over Rainbow Bridge so we desperately need a replacement. Whilst our little van is great for vets visits our larger one was essential for all the other work we do on a daily basis.

https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/Wonkybus?invite=true&fbclid=IwAR3g9PFucBV7dVT9tuC3aJapEXVhGgA0JZTj_owx5Nsi7Y09GnmQHpVFKAY

Our van literally saves lives. It’s a multipurpose vehicle that is used to collect animals especially puppyfarm ex breeding dogs. it is used to collected pet food donations, collect donated items for our three charity shops and deliver purchases to customers. It is used to move stock around and whilst we are unable to hold events at the moment it is essential for our Auctions, car boots, Dog Shows and all manner of other fundraising opportunities.

We desperately need a good quality replacement as our previous van was past economic repair. It was a total workhorse and travelled many hundreds of miles and we are simply lost without it.

Reference no: D2020 117

Name: Teddy

Age: Approx. 4 years

Breed: Tibetan Terrier

Fostered in: South Wales

Teddy is a gorgeous friendly dog. He is so gentle and loves being fussed. He loves to be with humans and is happy to just sit by your side or on your lap. He is so quiet around the house. He likes going for walks and just plods along beside you. He is friendly with everyone he meets and is not reactive to other dogs.

People: He is friendly with everyone he meets and likes them to smooth him. He’s happy to be touched and loves a cuddle. He hasn’t been groomed but enjoys being brushed.

Can I live with children: Teddy loves children and looks to them to smooth him. He will need a home with older children because he is a bit big for toddlers.

He will play with his fosterers dogs in the house but is also happy to be independent from them. He doesn’t react to dogs on a walk but likes to say ‘hello’. He does bark at other dogs when he is in the car. Teddy would be happy as an only dog as he likes everyone’s attention. He would also be happy with another dog.

Can I live with cats: Teddy has not been tested with cats or small furry animals.

In the home: Teddy is well behaved in the home. He sleeps after a walk and this could be in a bed or on the sofa. He is house trained but will mark at the moment. Hopefully this will change when he is neutered. He sleeps in the kitchen at night in either a bed or chair. He cries a little when first left but soon settles. He is clean overnight. Teddy is not destructive and will play with some toys but likes human interaction. Teddy grazes his food all day and is not aggressive with food. He will pinch food off worktop if he can reach but can be trained not to do this. Teddy hasn’t been left for any length of time at the moment.

Out and about: Teddy is really good on walks on the lead. Sniffs about but just plods along and doesn’t pull. Teddy is quite bouncy in the car and has to be strapped in tight or he will try to move around the car.

Type of home:

Teddy would really suit a family home with older children. He will need someone who can be home a lot with him as he likes to be around humans. Also, someone who can take him for walks as he really enjoys socialising. He will be a really loyal companion. He would suit as an only dog or equally happy with other dogs in the house.

Potential adopters will be expected to travel to South Wales to meet him.

I come with five week free Agria Pet Insurance.

Name: Truffle

Age: 4 years

Breed: Westie cross Poodle

Fostered in: South Wales

Truffle is a lovely little dog. She took a few days to settle in and is a bit nervous of new people, once she gets to know you, she loves lots of cuddles. Truffle loves to give kisses; she is starting to play with her doggie brother and sisters. She likes to gather all the toys in her bed and at first didn’t want to share but is now fine with sharing. She loves her food and is an excellent little guard dog. She takes a little while to come around to new people she is a little nervous, but once she comes around she is very affectionate and loves a cuddle , she does seem too come around more quickly to women

Health Issues: Grade 2 heart murmur

Can live with Children: Not tested

Can Live with Cats: Not tested

Can Live with other dogs: She is fine with other dogs, she loves to cuddle with her foster brother. Truffle needs to be rehomed with at least one resident dog.

Truffle will need the company of another dog to teach her how to be a do and help her to become a more confident and social girl.

In the home: Truffle is toilet training during the day but does have the odd accident at night now. She sleeps mainly in a crate with door open but sometimes will sleep on foster mums bed , eating well , can be a little obsessed with toys but is getting better at sharing, Truffle is fine to be left for short periods of time and hasn’t been destructive.

Out and About: She is fine traveling in car but has only been on short journeys, she is fine in the vets and is getting better on the lead she will need ongoing training with walks.

Downing Street’s new top dog

Friends of Animals Wales is a small animal charity in the Welsh Valleys. Our founder Eileen Jones has
dedicated much of her life to rescuing animals who desperately need a second chance in life. Friends of
Animals Wales is run solely by volunteers and we work around the clock to make a difference to the animals who may not have had a good start in life.
Over the years we have saved many hundreds of puppy farm breeding dogs and puppies; dogs and puppies who are invariably unwell, often with life-limiting conditions. It is heartbreaking and difficult work and sometimes despite our best efforts and those of the dedicated vets we work with, all we can do is give these poor souls a dignified, compassionate death surrounded by love and care.
It takes its toll on us emotionally and of course financially as these are dogs that have rarely been afforded any physical or psychological care in their lives. Our vet bills are astronomical and we constantly struggle to raise the funds to pay them.
The puppy farm breeding dogs have so often been exploited for their pups, puppies that have for decades been bought by the public across England. So, if you’ve bought a pup without seeing the mum, we may just be caring for your own dog’s mother or father right now.
There are also those dogs who are not suitable for adoption but who still deserve the chance to live out their days in a loving environment with the best quality of life possible. Those are our ‘wonky’ dogs and they stay with us at what we call ‘Wonky Towers’ for the rest of their lives.
We knew that Carrie Symonds has always been a huge animal welfare advocate and we are absolutely
overjoyed that this gorgeous pup will be living his best life with Carrie and the Prime Minister at their
Downing Street home. To think our little ’wonky’ pup started his life in a Welsh puppy farm and was destined for an uncertain existence at the hands of a puppy dealer, but is now going to be with people who absolutely adore him is a dream come true. This little man will want for nothing in his life, what could be better than that? And how fantastic to be raising the profile of rescue dogs everywhere in the process!
Friends of Animals Wales has been proud to be part of the Lucy’s Law team alongside Marc Abraham and
C.A.R.I.A.D. – and our relief when Michael Gove confirmed in the gardens of Downing Street, surrounded by our own puppy farm survivors, that Lucy’s Law was to become a reality in England was incredible. We’re still waiting for a date from the Welsh Government for the introduction of this new law but praying for the dogs that it is soon. And of course, we’re keeping everything crossed for the puppy farm dogs in Scotland that the government there will also make the right decision north of the border shortly.
We know only too well why Lucy’s Law is such an important piece of legislation because we pick up the pieces of third-party puppy selling every day. The suffering of these dogs is unimaginable unless you see it
first-hand as we have done for so many sad years.
We would like to thank Carrie and the Prime Minister for opening their hearts and their home to a puppy farm survivor and for inviting Friends of Animals Wales back to Downing Street once again. We wish them a lifetime of happiness with their new best friend.

Friends of Animals Wales is desperately trying to purchase our first property to help facilitate the rescue
and rehabilitation of more animals in need: In particular with the increasing number of ex puppy farm dogs
being surrendered to the rescue as a result of the impending changes to legislation (Lucy’s Law).
We have located suitable premises in South Wales, with land and outbuildings where we can create a haven for all our rescue animals including a specialist rehabilitation area to help puppy farm survivors.
Before we can do this, we need to settle our outstanding vet bills, currently standing at approximately
£36,000 and increasing by the day, averaging £8,000 per month plus specialist referral costs. No animal has ever been turned away by us because they were too expensive to help. Every penny donated by the public will go directly to help the animals.

Name Ace

Age 10 months

Children: No

Can I live with other dogs: Yes

Can I live with cats: No

Fostered in: Wiltshire

ACE is a 10-month old American Bulldog who is being fostered in Wiltshire. He has come from a home with 2 other dogs but unfortunately this did not work out for him.

Due to a short time in kennels he has become very nervous with strangers, he’s happy for them to walk by him on walks but didn’t like them to talk to him so becomes very vocal, hence why we will not rehome him with children.

He’s not a big fan of cats when on walks and does try to pull to go find them. He does love a walk but can pull at the start, but will wait at roads when told. He likes to make sure everyone is still with him so turns back to check on everyone. He’s not learnt recall yet so this will need to be done with him.
Ace has no problem going in to the car and sits nicely although he can get a little car sick if it’s long a journey.
He will happily go into his cage by himself unless it’s you wanting him to go in then he will sit and not move so needs great encouragement to get in. He currently has some separation issues so does make some noise when left on his own for too long and at night time. In his previous home this was not a issue.
Ace loves to play with his toys and will need very durable toys as he loves to chew but is very happy with a cardboard box with some treats in.
Ace does love to have his cuddles and kisses especially on a evening.

Ace is fully vaccinated, wormed, neutered and microchipped. Potential adopters will be expected to travel to meet him in his foster home in Wiltshire.

May I introduce Herbie….

This gorgeous boy didn’t have the best of starts in life but he has been sorted out and showered with love by his wonderful foster family and has blossomed into a very handsome and friendly soul.

What he needs now is to find a home where the love showering continues and not only from humans – after being on his own all his life so far, it is our mission to find him a special lady rabbit friend. If there was a Tinder for rabbits, Herbie would be at the top of everybun’s list!

Herbie is now six years old and simply adorable. He is full of fun and mischief.  Due to lack of care in his younger days, his teeth aren’t as good as they could be but he has been doing really well as he has discovered the joys of eating hay which will help keep his teeth healthy.

He is neutered and fully vaccinated (both vaccines) and is ready to seek a loving home with a NEUTERED, VACCINATED female. There is a process to bonding rabbits which we can help and advise with.

Herbie will need quarterly check ups with a vet because of his teeth and Friends of Animals Wales will cover the costs of these visits and any future treatment needed to keep his teeth in good condition.  If you think you are able to give Herbie the forever home he deserves, please click on the  link below.  Please remember that Herbie is looking for love and he needs a home where he can be bonded with a neutered and vaccinated female rabbit:

Frankie

Hello everyone, my name is Frank but everyone calls me Frankie, and as you can see I’m a beautiful West Highland Terrier.. I wasn’t always so well off you see – as I came from a puppy farm where I had to scrabble for my food and I was kept in filthy, dirty conditions and didn’t get any love from the human people who used me to get money. I suppose my work was much better than the young ladies in the puppy farm as they kept having baby puppies over and over again but I suppose I was one of the puppy farms maker of these puppies and they are not born with good health or in very nice conditions mummy says I was a CASH COW? (don’t know what that means – because I’m not a cow – I don’t think anyway)

Thankfully Friends of the Animals took me on but I needed a Long Term foster home as I am classed as Life Limiting, especially coming from the environment I was in I have quite a few health issues the main one being what they call “Westie Lung” it means I find it hard to breathe some days and I cough quite a bit now I didn’t have any idea about toilet training No’ 1’s or No. 2’s I just thought I had to go wherever I was , I still have a mishap every now and then – I did a lovely episode in my mummys bathroom as that’s where she does her smelly thing and I thought that’s the place to do it – but mummy still said no so outside I go, however, I do tend to keep it for the garden and not when we go for our walks – our walks are to smell and nose around different things and sometimes someone has kindly dropped some left over food on the floor and I rush to get it – Mummy tells me off she says I’m eating rubbish food ( crap she says) and it’s not good for me

But all that changed for me, you see my Lovely foster daddy and mummy fell in love with me (I know how easy that was for them as I’m such a good looker) and I also have another Brother also from a rescue Sammy along with who mummy calls Lunatic Lu (Lulu) and yes she’s another rescue dog and she has the biggest voice in our house. I have to admit even I get fed up of her constant nagging well that’s what daddy used to call it, he’d say that all the females in the house were naggers. And us males were the best. Sometimes I still scout around looking for food even though I have plenty of lovely food (on weekends mummy cooks us fresh chicken as our little spoil – I look forward to that soooooo much – can’t wait for Saturdays to come along) I have gained a little weight as I get worn out if we tend to go for a long walk so I’m not even walking it off (I don’t know what mummy thinks I’m doing but I certainly am walking)

Not long after I went to my foster home my daddy passed away (I think that means he’s gone to a human Rainbow Bridge) I thought my mummy wanted me to go back as she was so sad but my mummy loves having us around her and it is us three guys that kept her going (so she says) so it’s now up to Sammy and myself as the boys of the household to look after her and make sure she’s as happy and loved as we are.

I even went out to play in the snow I’d never seen snow before and when mum called me in to get warm I wanted to stay out and play and hide in the trees at the back of the garden – I have little special dens that I hide in out the garden and it’s a big garden sometimes mummy thinks I’m lost but I’m not I’m just playing and hide and seek, but boy because I give her a fright she raises her voice a bit like Lunatic Lu and says I’ve frightened her I think it’s the other way around. We are going to the cottage next month and mum says I will love it – Obviously Sammy & Lu have been there loads of time but this will be my first holiday it’s by the sea and I love seaweed (makes me nice and smelly)

Mummy tries to sneak my tablets in a treat for me for worms and other medication when needed – she thinks I don’t know what she’s playing at but I do, Sammy told me to watch out when that little treat goes in front of you called corned beef there’s always something in it that’s meant to make you better. But I’m a good boy SOMETIMES so I always scoff it and then mum tells me I’m a good boy.
Mum says I’m deaf when I want to be, stubbon, greedy and because I fart a lot a stinker but I love these lovely words she calls me cos I know she loves me as it’s me on her lap every night I get there first to have my cwtch and cuddle before my brother and sister start moaning.

Without Friends of the Animals taking the chance to help me out I most probably would already be at the doggie Rainbow Bridge (mummy says I’m not going for years and years and years so I guess I’ll be about 100 years old with a message from the Queen or new King by then).

Friends of the Animals have huge Vet bills and mummy says it must be a struggle to keep paying them – BUT that is where you all come in to the picture I know not everyone wants a dog or cat or indeed any other animals in their lives but we can all help by just supporting financially. Like Tesco say ‘A little goes a long way’ . Eilleen is the lovely lady that takes us all on board and then there are a team of wonderful volunteers like my mummy who helps out to support us in other ways she even lets me sleep on her bed but she positions my bum away from her so the smell (and apparently I stink) that I emit goes away from her (she’s so clever).

So if and when you ever decide that you would like a dog or a cat always RESCUE there are loads out there and even better if you can help one of the old and not very well (Health side) dogs, cats etc or what mummy says is a wonky?? (once again no idea what a wonky is) all the better because mummy says you’ll be helping a beautiful soul like me.

Please support this very special cause and make special dogs and cats and other animals just like me feel safe, warm and loved. Thankyou love Frankie and my brother Sammy and sister Lulu xx

Hi Rupert here. I’m one of the Friends of Animals Wales Wonky dogs. I came from a puppy farm when I was 5 months old because I have wonky legs that can’t be fixed. I live with my foster mum and their dogs and we have lots of foster dogs that come to stay. I love helping to look after the foster dogs, teaching them how to play and be brave until they are ready to go to their forever homes. I love people and dogs and foster mum takes me out to Meet & Greets, where all my fans come along to say hello to me and make a fuss of me. I love going to these and doing cute things like lying down for tummy rubs and giving people my paw. I’m really gentle with little people and dogs. I’ve been to London on the train to support Lucy’s Law and met lots of celebrities. Even though my legs can’t be fixed, I have hydrotherapy and medication to keep me comfortable and I make sure that I am happy every day and bring happiness to others. The kind donations you give help this happen and give me a wonderful life that I would never have had without your kindness. Love from Rupert x

Hi everyone Patsy here. As you can see by my photos I don’t really like to do anything that takes too much energy, chillin is what I like to do mostly.
I’m not able to be adopted as I have a few health issues so I live with my foster mum and dad, for humans they are not too bad except when they take me out for a walk and I just wants to chill me bones and laze about dreaming of what I’m going to have for breakfast, lunch or tea, as I love my food cos it’s not like that horrid stuff I used to have on the puppy farm. Here I have it in a dish and a clean one as well it’s delicious and my mum doesn’t shout when I get it all over my face cos I’ve only got 4 tiny teeth so my food gets everywhere. I had to have all the rest of my teeth out as they were rotten and my gums were full of pus, I was in pain but I never showed it cos no one used to care and wouldn’t have helped me so I pretended I was OK.
I also cough like a 60 a day smoker, I’ve never smoked those stinky things but because no one cared for me I got ill with growths on my lungs and my kidneys are fading to so I drink loads so I’m peeing every few minutes.
My mum says it’s like living with an elephant as I pee so much.
I do meet and greets so people can see what our rescue does and to raise funds to keep the other long term foster dogs alive and comfortable for as long as we have left and to help all the other animals that come into our rescue cos there’s loads of them all the time and it takes a lot of money to feed them and vets are brilliant at helping us, but yucky medicine costs lots of that funny money thing that mum says we need loads of.
I can’t hear much either and my eye sight is not the best so the dark scares me as I don’t know what the shadows are so mum cuddles me and tickles my fur to show me that there’s no monsters trying to eat me or anything.
Don’t feel sorry for me as even though I’ve had a terrible life and all my babies were taken away from me I’m happy now as the lovely people from friends of animals Wales are looking after me and I live in a lovely foster home with a brother and 2 sisters one which was puppy farm mum like me. That’s her I’m cuddled up to as she’s been through the same as me so we like to have a cwtch in the same bed.
I also have colitis and my poor mum and dad are not allowed to used those nice smelly things like candles or freshener as my lungs can’t cope, but they love me anyway.

Beattie came to us in 2015 on long term foster. At only 13 weeks old she was born on a puppy farm and although initially sold it soon became clear she had a medical problem as she was constantly wet and leaking urine. After coming into the care of Friends of Animals Wales our vet diagnosed her with an ectopic uterus and in September of 2015 she had surgery in Langfords vets in Bristol to try and correct the problem. The operation helped a lot but Beattie is still leaky and will be on medication for life all paid for by the rescue.
Just before Xmas this year Beattie developed a hematoma in her ear and what we initially thought was a minor ear infection. After having her ears flushed under anaesthetic it was discovered she has swelling in both her ears and her ear canals are very bumpy. Her treatment is on going and to date she has had 2 months of steroids, tablets for her stomach lining,4 courses of antibiotics, 4 bottles of ear drops and a bag of saline to flush her ears daily. This again is all paid for by Friends of Animals Wales and Beattie is very grateful to everyone who donates to this great rescue. She has never wanted for anything and is well loved in her long term foster home often helping new foster dogs settle in and find their forever home.

Lucy’s Law update

Yesterday three of our ex puppyfarm dogs were invited to number 10 Downing Street accompanied by our Founder and Rescue Coordinator Eileen Jones to celebrate the Lucys Law campaign of which we have been a part. Official photos will be released in a few days but here’s a taste of the day. The dogs were total stars and were even allowed to park in Downing Street. A great day with exciting news on the way.
Special mention must be given to the wonderful police officers, No 10 staff and the caterers for making the dogs and Eileen so very welcome and doing everything they could to ensure the dogs were happy and comfortable in what was for them a very ‘different’ environment.

We are #SorrynotSorry for all the posts tonight about the fantastic show of solidarity for #LucysLaw in Wales today.
Our founder Eileen Jones made a pledge many years ago to never say “no” to a puppy farm dog.
Hundreds of dogs later and she has kept to her word.
Every broken, neglected, overbred, unloved dog comes to our rescue is given love, care and the chance to live the life every dog deserves.
The cost, emotionally and financially, has been massive.
But every former puppy farm dog now living a life of love and comfort makes it all worth it.
Throughout the years we have prayed for a movement such as this and were delighted when @Rctcouncil became the first local authority in Wales to support Lucy’s Law.
More and more Welsh councils are now following suit and today our amazing volunteers and fosterers went to Senedd to continue the campaign.
Thank you all.

Name: Bubbles
Age: c.4 years old
Breed: Labrador cross
Can I live with Children: Older children only
Can I live with cats: No, will chase
Can I live with other dogs: No
Fostered In: Hengoed, South Wales
Bubbles is about 4 years old and is a Labrador cross girlie. She is being fostered near Hengoed in South Wales and is looking for a home where she is an only dog.People – Bubbles needs time to develop trust with her humans but once she knows you she loves cuddles and attention. She is unsure of strange people though and introductions must be on her terms as she will growl out of fear. Don’t let this put you off though as she adores her humans. She loves to cuddle up on the sofa and will be a faithful companion given the chance.Dogs – Bubbles doesn’t like other dogs very much so care must be taken while out on walks. She would benefit from further ‘controlled’ socialisation to help her realise there is nothing to fear. Bubbles will only be rehomed as an only dog.Cats – Bubbles will chase cats and will not be rehomed with one.In the home – Bubbles is fine in the home. She has been left for up to five hours at a time and has been fine. She will need careful introductions with visitors to the house as will growl if unsure but with a firm ‘no’ and respectful visitors she is fine. At night she sleeps on her bed in the kitchen but does love to cuddle up to her humans on the sofa during the evening.Out and about – Bubbles does pull on the lead and currently uses a harness to reduce this. It also helps when passing other dogs as she will growl at them. She is a fast learner though and in the few weeks she has been in her foster home her foster family have noticed a change in her lead walking, so this training should be continued in her new home.Type of home – This lovely lady does adore her humans so would prefer them to be around for most of the day. She can live with older, sensible children but can’t live with other dogs or cats. She will need continued training and socialisation and firm boundaries. She listens well and is very quick to learn so a home that is willing to work with her and her issues is a must.Bubbles is spayed, vaccinated, microchipped and up to date with her flea and worming treatment. Potential adopters will be expected to visit Bubbles in her foster home in Hengoed, South Wales.

Name: Aslan
Age: Approx 3 years
Breed: Labrador X
Can I live with Children: Yes, older
Can I live with cats: No
Can I live with other dogs: No
Fostered In: Rhondda, South Wales

Aslan is a three-year-old, tri-pawed Labrador X who is being fostered in South Wales. He has had a difficult start to life and has learned to survive on his own wits. This means that he has developed some traits that he will need help in leaving behind with his past. So many endearing qualities about Aslan. He loves being out in the garden and will happily spend hours just laying around but the door has to be open so he knows you are about.

People – Aslan loves humans and men in particular. He is fine with children and seems to enjoy the attention of all shapes and sizes. Once he knows you-you will have the waggiest greeting from him. He also likes nothing better than a good groom from his favourite human, although did nip the dog groomer recently while she was trimming his nails. Aslan will only be rehomed with older children due to his issues around food.

Dogs – Aslan is fostered as an only dog but seems indifferent to other dogs when out for his walks. He does get annoyed by small and although sociable, we feel he would be better as an only dog.

Cats – Aslan will not be rehomed with cats.

In the home –Aslan loves to bark at the ice-cream van. As a former street dog food is an issue with him. He gulps his food, despite having an anti-gulp bowl which he has learned to tip over. At first, hand feeding him was risky but he does take food out of hand a little slower now. Aslan is happy to be left but things must be stored out of reach. Aslan will empty bins looking for food. He will take children’s toys to chew if left lying around and he will reach up onto kitchen units and pull down anything he can reach. He enjoys a game of catch with a ball and loves to tug on a rope toy.

Out and about – Aslan does not like getting in the car but, once in, travels well although he pants a lot. He is good on a lead when he wants to walk but can be really stubborn and refuse to move even though no aggression is shown. Despite only having three legs he is incredibly strong and runs like the wind. Because Aslan only has three legs it is very important that he gets regular exercise and is not allowed to become overweight. Given the choice, he would prefer to laze around!!

Type of home – Aslan deserves company and would be perfect for someone that is home a lot. He will need a large garden where he can play ball as he loves being outdoors. As he only has three legs he does like to rest a lot. His new home doesn’t need to be overly active but short, regular walks and games in the garden would be perfect for him.

Aslan is neutered, chipped, vaccinated and up to date with his flea and worming treatment. Potential adopters will be expected to travel to meet him in his foster home in Rhondda, South Wales.

Name: Donna
Age: 8 months
Breed: Miniature Schnauzer
Can I live with Children: Visiting children only
Can I live with cats: Yes
Can I live with other dogs: Yes
Fostered In: RCT, South Wales

Donna is an 8-month old Miniature Schnauzer puppy who is being fostered in RCT, South Wales.

Donna was born with almost no soft palate and underwent a rare procedure at Langford Veterinary hospital to build one. It was only possible to create half but surgery was successful. She may require further surgery but we are optimistic that this will not be necessary. It is essential for her well-being that she is kept to a strict diet of soaked kibble.

Failure to follow this could cause problems in her nasal cavity possibly resulting in infections. Friends of Animals Wales will cover costs for all further surgery or issues at a later date related to her soft palate but adopters will be expected to cover day to day vet care.

People – Donna has been well socialised and loves people young and old. She currently lives with a three-year-old and an 18-month old child but her foster mum is a vet nurse and is very vigilant if the children drop food, ensuring that Donna doesn’t get anything that she shouldn’t. Due to this danger, we feel that should only be rehomed to an adult home with visiting children only.

Dogs – Donna is fine with other dogs. She joins her foster mum at work in a busy veterinary practice and lives with a Golden Retriever at home.

Cats – Donna lives with two cats at home. Donna is interested in them but does not chase them or bother them so with continued training we feel that she will happily live with a dog-savvy cat.

In the home – Donna behaves well in the home. She is house trained and non-destructive but she is a typical puppy so will chew things if left in her reach. Her new family will have to be prepared for toileting accidents because of the change in surroundings until she settles.

Out and about – Donna enjoys her walks. Because of her soft palate issue, she does need to be walked on a harness but does well with this.

Type of home – Donna needs an adult-only home with people who have plenty of time to spend with her. She is left for up to four hours a day and is crate trained so may be suitable for part-time workers. She is very “waggy” and loves to have cuddles. She is happiest playing and we think she will be very good at agility. She can live with other dogs, with dog savvy cats but any children should be visiting only.

Donna is neutered, chipped, vaccinated and up to date with her flea and worming treatment. Potential adopters will be expected to travel to meet her in her foster home in South Wales

Name: Ursula
Age: 8 years
Breed: Bichon Frise
Can I live with Children: Yes sensible children
Can I live with cats: Not tested
Can I live with other dogs: Yes, at least 1 other dog
Fostered In: RCT

Ursula is an 8-year old Bichon Frise who is being fostered in RCT, South Wales. She is a very quiet girl. She loves sitting on your lap for a cuddle and will happily stay there all day or lounge on the sofa. She also loves her food. Ursula is getting her used to life as a pet. She is a great little dog who will make a great addition to a family who will give her that bit of extra time to realise that all humans are not scary.

People – Ursula loves everyone. Slightly older gentle children in her new home as she doesn’t really like play but is happy to sit by you for fuss. Visiting toddlers would be fine

Dogs – Yes Ursula is used to living with other dogs of varying sizes. Bouncy puppies are too much for her but older calmer dogs are fine.
She can grumble at other dogs if they come to close when she is on your lap but will stop if you tell her No. Ursula would need at least one brother or sister to teach her how to be a pet.

Cats – Ursula is not tested on cats but she is a calm little girl and should be ok

In the home –Ursula can be left for short periods and doesn’t do any damage. She does love her human company though so if possible would prefer to come with you. She has been crate tested but doesn’t need to be in a crate as she’s not destructive at all. Ursula has never played with toys and she is not quite sure what to do with them. This is fairly typical of ex-breeding dogs and this will change as she gets more confident but, at the moment, she prefers a cuddle on the sofa.

Out and about – Yes Ursula is a fine weather walker. She has a short walk a day but is equally as happy to stay indoors or just potter around the garden.

Type of home – Ursula would love to live with a retired couple who are at home most of the day and will take her for short walks. She could live with children or other kind dogs but this isn’t necessary as she just loves her humans. She would like a garden where she is free to potter in when she wants to.

Ursula has had an operation to remove a cataract from both eyes. She is currently on eye drops several times a day which will need to continue in her new home. Ursula is still under Rowe vets in Bristol where she is currently going every month. She has three lots of drops which are gradually being reduced but she may always be on some

Ursula is neutered, chipped, vaccinated and up to date with her flea and worming treatment. Potential adopters will be expected to travel to meet her in her foster home in Rhondda, South Wales

Name: Teddie
Age: 8 months
Breed: Yorkshire Terrier
Can I live with Children: Older children only
Can I live with cats: Yes, dog savvy ones
Can I live with other dogs: Yes
Fostered In: RCT

Teddie is an 8-month old Yorkshire Terrier who is being fostered in RCT, South Wales. He is a typical terrier, full of energy and mischief so he will need a home that’s prepared to give him plenty of attention. He will bark at anything he is unsure about as he is still getting used to lots of things. He comes from a home where he is used to getting his own way so his new owners would need to maintain a level of discipline to stop him slipping back into bad habits

People – Teddie loves humans although he has not really had too much contact with children. He has met children aged 12 and 14 and he is fine with them. He seems fine with children when out and about.

Dogs – Teddie is fine with other dogs. He is very lively so he would have to be with dogs that would tolerate him as he will not take no for an answer when he wants to play with them.

Cats – Teddie is fine with cats and wants to play with them and they tend not to like that. Any cats in the home will have to be dog savvy.

In the home – Teddie is fine in the home and can be left for short periods. He is left in a crate after making sure he has had a walk first. He sleeps all night in his crate overnight and he is fine. Teddie is not destructive but he will pinch anything he can reach, tissues especially! If you drop anything he will pick it up in a flash and run away with it.

Out and about – Teddie behaves well on a lead, pulls a bit when he first goes out but soon calms down. He does want to say hello to everybody or any dog that he meets and he will pick up anything on the pavement if he can to carry while he walks. He is getting used to the noise of traffic he will stop if a bus or a big lorry goes by but that will be ok given time.

Type of home – A home that has plenty of time for him and we think a home with other dogs because he does enjoy playing with them. His new family would have to be very firm with him and understand that he is still young and has a lot of growing up to do.

Teddie is neutered, chipped, vaccinated and up to date with his flea and worming treatment. Potential adopters will be expected to travel to meet him in his foster home in South Wales

Update 12/6/18 the girls have now found their forever home
Daisy and Indie are mother and daughter Chihuahuas aged 3 years and 18 months respectively. They are being fostered in RCT, South Wales, and have always lived together. They are special little snowflakes. They are typical Chi’s in that they are absolute sweethearts but won’t stand any nonsense. They are very dependent
on their human and are definitely lap dogs.People – Daisy is quick to trust and greet all humans and will always present herself for a cuddle. Indie takes a few minutes to warm to you but, once she has, is the hungriest for attention. They compete for attention which never results in nastiness but they can get very excited which is why older children would be better. They are constant companions who thrive in the company of humansDogs – Daisy and Indie are fine with other dogs although they definitely have little dog syndrome. Any disrespect will be dealt with by warning and this usually does the trick. They mix well with all dogs but are just as happy on their own with their humans.Cats – The girls have not been tested with catsIn the home – Daisy and Indie are housetrained but won’t hold it in. If they cannot get outside they will use a training pad. They are not destructive at all and spend their days following their human around or sleeping. They don’t seem particularly interested in play although they will chase each other on occasion. They sleep well at night preferring the human bed to a dog bed.Out and about – Daisy and Indie love their walks and are well behaved in companyType of home – Daisy and Indie will be well suited to a home that has experience with Chi’s and their little idiosyncrasies. With or without other dogs, as long as they have humans to wrap around their little fingers they will be happy and well adjusted.Daisy and Indie are neutered, chipped, vaccinated and up to date with their flea and worming treatment. Potential adopters will be expected to travel to meet them in their foster home in South Wales

They did it …Climbing Ben Nevis

UPDATE

They did it ……  23 degree heat on the way up and snow at the top. Well done Team Mountain Goats!! xx

This lovely lady is an amazing supporter of FoaWales

Please show support her in her venture if you can.

Samantha Mainwaring

Hi guys. As we already know, Friends of the Animals Wales is an amazing charity. 2 years ago they allowed me to adopt two very handsome kittens 😻😻. If it hadn’t been for Friends of the Animals I dread to think what would have happened to my two boys, their siblings and their mother.

I’d really like to give something back….

So, on 25th May 2018, myself and 3 friends, “The Mountain Goats” are trekking up Ben Nevis. It’s the highest mountain in the British Isles at a lofty 1,345m. To put it into perspective, the Big Ben clock tower is 96m and the London Eye is 135m. 😬😥😱. We’re not the fittest but we’ll try our absolute best and we’re utterly determined to reach the summit.🏔

Just wondering if any of you would like to sponsor myself and the other goats to make the climb? ALL DONATIONS GO TO FRIENDS OF THE ANIMALS WALES. Us goats would be VERY grateful!!!! You can sponsor us via the PayPal account of the charity: Foawales@aol
– with reference “Ben Nevis”.

Thanks for reading this.

Can I live with other dogs: Yes, must be homed with at least 1 other dog
Fostered In: Worcestershire

Chance is a very frightened 6-year old Beagle girl, fostered in Worcestershire. She coming on in leaps and bounds, but needs to be introduced gently to all new experiences. One of the gentlest spirits we have met Chance such a delight to watch when she forgets her fears. So cuddly when she trusts.
People – Chance is very nervous of new people. Once she gets to know you she becomes very loving and cuddly. Now she is confident enough to be able to go out on a lead she is seeing more people and she is becoming more more relaxed with people as long as they don’t crowd her. She is very jumpy if people wave hands around.
Dogs – Yes. Has met a good range of age and size, Yorkie to Greyhound to large Labrador without problem. She shows no aggression.
Cats – Not Tested
In the home – Chance is normally left with another dog or two, but has been left on her own a couple of times. She is not worried about electrical appliances although she is easily frightened by random loud noises, bumps and bangs. She is very slowly becoming less frightened by general household noises, but we don’t think she would like a very noisy environment. In the early days a sudden bump would result in her running scared to a place of safety and not coming out for some hours. At the moment she tends to run out of the room but comes back after a short time.

She is worried about large pieces of material, towels, sheets, duvet covers, dog blanket. Very sad to see but we are working on it. Chance has the usual puppy farm dog problem with going through doors – she has come on well with this, although there are still odd occasions when I have to move right away from the door before she will come in.

Out and about – Chance loves going out on a lead. She pulls a little but is not difficult. She doesn’t walk to heel yet.
Type of home – Chance needs an active, but calm home. She loves going out and walking. Although she is nervous with people she actually enjoys company of people she knows and we think she would like a home where someone is around a lot of the time. Her adoptive family will have to understand her fear and be willing to be patient and work at her speed (with a gentle nudge). Anyone who puts some time and effort in will be richly rewarded. Chance must have at least 1 calm dog with her. We think she will learn to play, but at the moment she isn’t sure what to do.

Chance is neutered, chipped, vaccinated and up to date with her flea and worming treatment. Potential adopters will be expected to travel to meet her in her foster home in Worcester

Can I live with cats: No

Fostered In: Rhondda, South Wales

Annabel is a 1-year old Turkish tripawd crossbreed who is being fostered in RCT, South Wales. She loves nothing more than a cuddle and a fuss on the sofa. Although she only has 3 legs that doesn’t stop her doing anything and she loves running around and playing

People – Annabel is great with all people. She loves a fuss and could live with sensible children. As she is still quite young she would be too much for toddlers.

Dogs – Yes she gets on well with other dogs

Cats – No. No cats in her new home please

In the home – Annabel can be left for short periods although she will bark when you first leave her. She is used to all household noises but does enjoy staying just outside all the action when she gets tired. She loves to play but loves her quiet time too.

Out and about – Annabel walks well on the lead. Her stamina needs to be built up so it will be short walks to start with. She is great in the car.

Type of home – Annabel would suit a large number of homes. She loves cuddles so as long as you have time to spare to make a fuss of her she’ll be happy. She can live with or without children or other dogs. She wouldn’t like to be left for long periods of time but a few hours is ok. She would love a garden to run around in and a couple of short walks a day.

Annabel is neutered, chipped, vaccinated and up to date with her flea and worming treatment. Potential adopters will be expected to travel to meet her in her foster home in South Wales
