RESIDENT DOG OF A SIMILAR SIZE
CHILDREN 10 AND OVER
PATIENT HOME WITH AN UNDERSTANDING OF EX BREEDING DOGS.
Lady is a 6 year old Schnauzer who is an absolute darling. Although she is an ex breeding Bitch and is nervous of humans, you can see that she so wants to trust and learn.
Lady is unsure of humans and can back away when approached but is slowly learning to enjoy human touch and will tolerate a cuddle for short periods on a lap. She likes to lay in her crate or on her bed most of the time apart from when she’s lazing in the sunshine or searching for balls in the garden. Lady cannot walk on a lead yet as she is unsure of how to, when put on a lead she will freeze and become frightened so this will need patience and reassurance from her new family and ongoing perseverance in her new home.
Lady has not been around young children but has been fine around her foster mums 12year old son if he approaches her slowly and gently.
Lady gets worried when she has food and eating around other dogs. She is fine if the other dogs are not bothered what’s in her bowl but if another dog is stood around watching her eat she will become frightened and shake. Apart from that she is absolutely fine around all other dogs and will sit and constantly watch and learn from them. Lady would need another dog in the home to help her learn how to be a dog and that not all humans are bad.
Lady has not been tested with cats or small furries
Lady is house trained when she has access to the garden and she will take herself out all day with no accidents. She will use puppy pads if caught short throughout the night. She sleeps in an open crate or on a dogs bed downstairs through the night. Lady is fine being left a few hours with the other dogs in the home and will get excited when you return, she will greet you with an excited waggy tail. She is not destructive in any way and has recently found a love of squeaky balls and the joy of them being thrown for her to chase. She is currently eating dry kibble in her foster home and eats really well.
Lady is relaxed and travels well in the car and is well behaved at the vets but has not been out for walks due to needing to work on her confidence whilst on a lead.
Lady would be suitable to be rehomed with at least one other dog that she can learn from (preferably another schnauzer). Young children would scare lady so older sensible gentle children would be preferred so they can understand her needs. Lady needs an understanding and patient family able to work at a slow pace, building her confidence around humans but also teaching her basic training.
