SENSITIVE AND UNDERSTANDING HOME WITH FRENCHIE EXPERIENCE

Do you enjoy thriller movies? Do you often find yourself thinking the main characters are misunderstood and not really possessed?! Then Dennis the Menace is the dog for you, as everyday with Dennis is like living in a real-life thriller, some days you might be living with the canine version of Hannibal Lecter, and others you might be cuddled up next to the dog version of mogwai in gremlins… just don’t get him wet or the slightly naughtier gremlin might arrive!

Dennis is a 3 year old French bulldog that is very much a misunderstood soul. He likes to make out he’s a silent assassin that would prefer to live alone, with no visitors or uninvited guests and with his eye on the neighbour’s fence constantly in case of unauthorised football activity, but deep down he is a very sensitive soul that has decided from his tough past that the best way to keep strangers away is to terrify them with his best angry pig impression when he first meets people, or if people come into his house uninvited.

He wouldn’t get picked on an episode of first dates!

Underneath the tough, slightly unhinged guy act there is a loveable rogue that secretly loves cuddles and sofa naps, and is a little dog crying out for stability and routine

Dennis has previously had both knees operated on as his patella’s needed correcting, and he has had BOAS so he can breathe better and cope in hotter temperatures easier

Dennis very much chooses how he will interact with people, we haven’t decided if he does this on looks, smell, fashion sense or accent but Dennis will 100% judge you when you first meet and based on his judgement you will either be treated to the cute pig side of his personality or you may be slightly terrified by the angry pig, but once he trusts you, which usually involves ham, chicken a quick prayer and a four-leaf clover, then he is totally fine being handled and being touched.

Due to Dennis occasionally having episodes of making pennywise look tame it’s best for Dennis to be in an adult only home

Dennis is fine with other dogs as long as they don’t try and play or get over excited, then he gets quite stressed so he could live with a calm similar sized dog, and one that isn’t spooked by a slightly possessed doggo otherwise he would be best suited as an only dog

Dennis is fine with cats, he must know they are secretly plotting to take over the world and he respects that level of arrogance

Dennis in the home is a man of mystery. Some days he scans the perimeter of the home, checks the fences and decides nothing needs investigating, other days he must sense there is a football lurking somewhere in the neighbourhood and he makes it his mission to destroy them all- even if that involves staring at a fence panel or trying to dig to get to it. Dennis has an obsessive personality that currently presents as a toy obsession specifically balls, and if it rains he is determined to catch every drop falling so he needs close monitoring and continuing work to keep him calm and not tip him into a dog that would feature on the programme “Neighbour from Hell”

Dennis believes all toys should be destroyed instantly and any human that gets in his way may also face his wrath so negotiations have to begin if he gets hold of anything he decides he wants- chicken is normally his trading currency or ham as a second tactic!

Dennis loves being out in the countryside on walks, and is fine on a lead.

Dennis at the vets needs careful handling, vets and vet nurses should definitely be prepared to negotiate heavily with him before any treatments, and failing that if negotiations cannot be amicably reached then they should prepare to launch ‘operation try to treat an angry pig’ and maybe draw straws to see who gets to see him!

Dennis is the most cheeky, funny, sensitive, naughty, reactive Frenchie that has had a really tough past and is desperate to trust people but sadly his past experiences have just made him not want to easily. In his foster home his behaviours are managed, he trusts his foster mum and he is a lovable rogue whose worst habit is digging in flower beds and snoring too loudly, but if he is allowed to rule the house or is put into unnecessary stressful situations in a new home then Dennis will definitely become a menace.

Dennis deserves a home that is prepared to work with him, understand his anxieties and not put pressure on him. He is a Frenchie that yes has his quirks, but anyone who is experienced with stressy Frenchies will see past that and hopefully understand that he needs to have time and understanding to settle in any new environment.

The ideal home for Dennis would be adults only who aren’t easily scared, no children, a calm resident dog or he can be an only dog, and someone home the majority of the day as Dennis isn’t a fan of being left for long periods of time.
Is he a straightforward dog? No
Will he test his new owners? Yes
Is he a dog that deserves a chance of becoming a reformed character in a home of his own? Absolutely!
