Mikey *****RESERVED*****
Mikey D2024-127
• Needs to be an only dog
• No cats
• Older dog savvy children
Mikey is a 3 year old Brittany Spaniel who adores people and loves being close to his human. He loves a cuddle and is happy snoozing in his bed or on the sofa. He is very loving and a pleasure to have around. He is well behaved in the home, does not chew anything and is generally quiet. He knows his name and will come when called.
Mikey is completely blind but this does not hold him back. Once he knows his surroundings he manages very well with a little help.
Mikey has not met any children in his foster home but seems to love everyone and should be fine with older children who are able to understand Mikey cannot see so bumps into things and does not know to move out of the way.
He has one favourite toy which he likes to play with on his own. He needs help finding it sometimes if it rolls away.
Mikey is not cat or small furry tested.
Mikey loves to go for a walk and is always keen to explore and sniff new surroundings. He can pull a bit but with harness and lead and collar and lead he walks quite well, staying close. His human has to be his guide and ensure he avoids obstacles like lamposts, walls etc but he loves to get out and about. He would enjoy being in a secure field on a long line as he is very scent orientated and easily distracted. As he can’t see where you are he needs to rely on his lead and your voice to guide him.
He will bark when outside in the garden if he hears noises, he is not sure about, e.g. cows in the field, children in the park or if he hears another dog barking but will quiet when told.
Mikey sleeps downstairs with the resident dogs on the sofa or in his dog bed. He has shown no interest in using any of the open crates in the house. The dogs in Mikey’s foster home do not go upstairs and Mikey has not shown any interest in attempting the stairs so unknown if he can manage them.
Mikey is totally house trained and gets praised for going out to the garden to toilet.
Mikey knows where his feeding spot is in the house and waits patiently to be given his bowl of food. He needs to be shown exactly where it is, then he happily eats and does not bother any of the resident dogs. He loves his treats and waits patiently for his and takes it very gently.
Mikey would benefit living in a fairly quiet home as an only dog. He loves meeting people, going for walks and playing in the garden so a home where he has access to the garden and lots of cuddles would be great. He is really adorable, a real people dog.
