Hapus
Hapus D2024-122
- Needs a resident dog
- Older dog savvy children
- Small enough to learn to live with cats
- Patient parents
- Would benefit from puppy class once settled
Hapus is a very small only 3.7kg 7 ½ month old Bichon described as a nervous little girl who is improving daily. Initially she was too frightened to interact with anyone and just sat in a crate cowering and shaking. Although still nervous and skittish she’s made remarkable progress. She will now happily cuddle up on the sofa with someone, loves to lick your hand and often wags her tail when she sees her foster family. She might still scurry away to her crate if you make a sudden move but she’s getting braver every day. She has not been out for a walk yet as she needs a bit more time before facing the outside world.
She started by being very scared in the home but has made great progress and signs of a playful puppy are beginning to emerge, she will occasionally chase her tail or throw a stuffed toy around for example.
Not cat or small furry tested but is young enough to learn as long as the cat don’t eat her.
Due to not having experienced much of life we would recommend children of 12 and up but this would depend on the child’s experience with dogs as she’s not a dog that will immediately want to play or be cuddled, she will need patience and a quieter home hence no small children.
She has started to show an interest in playing with stuffed toys, she’s also shown an interest in unstuffing stuffed toys! She likes a good strong chew toy as well. She will also play with the resident dog.
She has had a harness and lead on but has not yet walked with them. This is a work in progress and needs to be taken at her pace. Initially practicing in the garden.
She currently sleeps in a crate and gets a lot of comfort from another dog being present. She will need another small dog in the home to sleep near, snuggle and play with eventually.
She is not yet house trained, she was too scared to go into the garden when she first arrived having never been outside before so she was puppy pad trained. She is now brave enough for the garden and has been learning like any other puppy that she is expected to toilet outside, it’s a work in progress but she is picking it up and this should go even better with another dog in the home to show her.
She has been fine eating around others and taking treats. She is easily pushed off her food so this will need to be watched.
Hapus will need a quieter home, especially at first as she adjusts to her new world. A home with her people there most of the time who are prepared to be patient and kind as she gets used to her new family. When she is brave enough she will benefit from training classes. Another well adjusted small dog in the home will be an absolute must, both to teach her how to be a dog in a loving home and help improve her confidence and also to provide comfort and snuggles. Hapus is a very sweet, gentle and loving little girl who has had a horrible start in life and is desperate to be adored so she is looking for the very best home that can help her be the dog she was meant to be and live up to her name!
