Name: Lulu and Dixie

Age: 4 years old

Breed: Chihuahua

Can I live with Children: Sensible over 7s

Can I live with cats: Yes

Can I live with other dogs: Yes

Fostered In: South Wales

Dixie and Lulu are a 4-year old bonded pair of Chihuahuas who are being rehomed together.  They both enjoy being cuddled and loved. Dixie is a little nervous but not painfully so, she will still bounce around you to get attention and show she wants to be your friend. Like all friends, they do have the occasional squabble when they are vying for attention, but they love to be together. One thing to note health wise is that Dixie has a grade 3 heart murmur and although she shows no clinical symptoms, the vet has prescribed half a vetmedin twice a day for the rest of her life.

People – Dixie and Lulu are Velcro dogs and love nothing better than to cuddle up to humans, their forever home must be prepared to cuddle them. Dixie can be nervous with strangers but once she know you, loves fuss. They will not cope with small boisterous children so will only be rehomed with sensible over 7s.

Dogs –   Dixie and Lulu are fine to live with other dogs and enjoy meeting other dogs while out on walks.

Cats – Both dogs live with cats in their foster home, despite the cats trying to get them to react to them by strolling past provocatively!

In the home – Dixie and Lulu will toilet in the garden and on walks but as foster mum works part time, they will both use washable training mats if they need to go when nobody is home or the weather is particularly inclement. Dixie and Lulu sleep in the lounge at night with the door shut so they not disturbed by the nocturnal cats. They sleep well all night, with several beds and sofas to choose from but will often snuggle together in the smallest bed they can find. They eat apart at mealtimes as Dixie will finish Lulu’s food and Lulu ends up not eating much otherwise! Although not destructive in the home, Dixie will try to eat small items, therefore, care needs to be taken that she cannot hurt herself by eating bits of plastic or wrappers that may fall to the floor.

Out and about – Dixie and Lulu are wonderful to walk, they are happy in harnesses and on leads and trot along loving the smells and excitement of the outside world. Dixie is a little nervous when meeting new people and dogs, whilst Lulu just can’t wait to say hello to every person she meets.  Dixie and Lulu are very human orientated, they mix with other dogs well but only need each other and loving humans in their forever home, therefore can be homed with or without other dogs. Dixie and Lulu will need a minimum of two 15 minute walks a day to keep them fit and healthy as small dogs are prone to put on weight and become unhealthy and unsocialised if not exercised regularly.

Dixie and Lulu travel in a bed together in the car and are secured with seat belt harnesses. They have travelled up to 2 hours in the car with their foster family and were completely content.

Dixie and Lulu are well behaved at the vets though a little nervous with the sights and sounds so prone to shaking. Foster Mum takes them to the vets in cat carriers to ensure they feel safe and secure

Type of home – Dixie and Lulu can live with a family that works to 5 to 6 hours a day as long as they have each other for company and have had morning feeding, cuddles, play/walk time and have plenty of access to fresh water, toys, toilet mats and a big room to exercise in when left alone. Foster Mum leaves a radio on for company and following a month in foster they have recently graduated from having a large lounge to themselves to being allowed to wander upstairs when foster mum is not home.

They are neutered, chipped, vaccinated and up to date with their flea and worming treatment. Potential adopters will be expected to travel to meet them in their foster home in Rhondda, South Wales

Name: Bruno

Age: 9 months old

Breed: French Bulldog

Can I live with Children: Older

Can I live with cats: A brave one!

Can I live with other dogs: With training, yes

Fostered In: Crewe, Cheshire

Bruno is a 9 month old French Bulldog who is being fostered in Crewe, Cheshire. He is a bundle of energy and will need a flat-faced experienced home where he will get further training and boundaries.

People – He is a very excitable young dog who is sociable with everyone, but would suit a home with older children or adults only

Dogs –   Bruno is very sociable with other dogs – currently he is unneutered so can be over the top with other dogs and will try to hump them so neutering will hopefully stop this but new adopters will need to work with him on introductions to other dogs.

Cats – Bruno is currently living with a cat, he can be over the top with the resident cat which will hopefully settle once he has been neutered

In the home – Bruno is still a baby and so needs basic training and will take time to settle into a new home and learn boundaries. Bruno can be left for short periods and does settle when left but as typical of his breed he doesn’t like being left for long periods. He does not like to be crated.

Out and about –  Bruno travels well in the car and loves interaction with people and other dogs. He enjoys his walks and is a typical excitable puppy.

Type of home – Bruno is looking for a home experienced with flat face breeds and where there is someone home for most of the day and may have another flat faced breed already in residence. Bruno is still a young dog and so needs a family that will work with him to continue his puppy training. Bruno is a typical Frenchie pup, full of fun, boisterous and a real cuddle monster. He is still learning and is into everything so will need guidance and patience from a new family.

Bruno is chipped, vaccinated and up to date with his flea and worming treatment. He will be neutered before he goes to his new home. Potential adopters will be expected to travel to meet him in Crewe, Cheshire

Update 22/11/2019 – Little Malcolm’s prognosis isn’t a good one so he is going to stay in his foster home for the time that he has left.

Liver function tests have come back showing a problem with the liver. It’s possibly a shunt as 40% aren’t picked up by abdominal scan which will need a referral to a specialist for a CT scan with a view to operate when he’s at least 6-8 months or could be MVD which there’s no fix for and will need to be managed with diet and medication. Malcolm isn’t currently ready for rehoming until we know more about his health issues. We will update as soon as we can.

Downing Street’s new top dog

Friends of Animals Wales is a small animal charity in the Welsh Valleys. Our founder Eileen Jones has
dedicated much of her life to rescuing animals who desperately need a second chance in life. Friends of
Animals Wales is run solely by volunteers and we work around the clock to make a difference to the animals who may not have had a good start in life.
Over the years we have saved many hundreds of puppy farm breeding dogs and puppies; dogs and puppies who are invariably unwell, often with life-limiting conditions. It is heartbreaking and difficult work and sometimes despite our best efforts and those of the dedicated vets we work with, all we can do is give these poor souls a dignified, compassionate death surrounded by love and care.
It takes its toll on us emotionally and of course financially as these are dogs that have rarely been afforded any physical or psychological care in their lives. Our vet bills are astronomical and we constantly struggle to raise the funds to pay them.
The puppy farm breeding dogs have so often been exploited for their pups, puppies that have for decades been bought by the public across England. So, if you’ve bought a pup without seeing the mum, we may just be caring for your own dog’s mother or father right now.
There are also those dogs who are not suitable for adoption but who still deserve the chance to live out their days in a loving environment with the best quality of life possible. Those are our ‘wonky’ dogs and they stay with us at what we call ‘Wonky Towers’ for the rest of their lives.
We knew that Carrie Symonds has always been a huge animal welfare advocate and we are absolutely
overjoyed that this gorgeous pup will be living his best life with Carrie and the Prime Minister at their
Downing Street home. To think our little ’wonky’ pup started his life in a Welsh puppy farm and was destined for an uncertain existence at the hands of a puppy dealer, but is now going to be with people who absolutely adore him is a dream come true. This little man will want for nothing in his life, what could be better than that? And how fantastic to be raising the profile of rescue dogs everywhere in the process!
Friends of Animals Wales has been proud to be part of the Lucy’s Law team alongside Marc Abraham and
C.A.R.I.A.D. – and our relief when Michael Gove confirmed in the gardens of Downing Street, surrounded by our own puppy farm survivors, that Lucy’s Law was to become a reality in England was incredible. We’re still waiting for a date from the Welsh Government for the introduction of this new law but praying for the dogs that it is soon. And of course, we’re keeping everything crossed for the puppy farm dogs in Scotland that the government there will also make the right decision north of the border shortly.
We know only too well why Lucy’s Law is such an important piece of legislation because we pick up the pieces of third-party puppy selling every day. The suffering of these dogs is unimaginable unless you see it
first-hand as we have done for so many sad years.
We would like to thank Carrie and the Prime Minister for opening their hearts and their home to a puppy farm survivor and for inviting Friends of Animals Wales back to Downing Street once again. We wish them a lifetime of happiness with their new best friend.

Friends of Animals Wales is desperately trying to purchase our first property to help facilitate the rescue
and rehabilitation of more animals in need: In particular with the increasing number of ex puppy farm dogs
being surrendered to the rescue as a result of the impending changes to legislation (Lucy’s Law).
We have located suitable premises in South Wales, with land and outbuildings where we can create a haven for all our rescue animals including a specialist rehabilitation area to help puppy farm survivors.
Before we can do this, we need to settle our outstanding vet bills, currently standing at approximately
£36,000 and increasing by the day, averaging £8,000 per month plus specialist referral costs. No animal has ever been turned away by us because they were too expensive to help. Every penny donated by the public will go directly to help the animals.

Our gorgeous little hand rear Peggy is full of mischief and cattitude. This young lady is only 13 weeks old but she already has a massive presence. She is super playful and very confident. She is good with other cats and cat savvy dogs. She loves to run around like a little whirlwind and then collapse on her foster parent for a good power nap. Being a baby she would easily fit into any household after a short period of adjustment. We think she is going to have long fur so her new pawrents are going to have to teach her about the joys of being groomed.

Female

13 weeks old

Peggy has had her first vaccination and is booked for her second Vaxs and microchip on the 03/09/2019

Cat and dog friendly.

Peggy is too young to be spayed so will come with a voucher towards the cost.

Name: Moo

Age: 2.5 years old

Breed: Bichon Frise

Can I live with Children: Older children

Can I live with cats: Not tested

Can I live with other dogs: Yes, a must

Fostered In:  RCT South Wales

Moo is a 2 and a half-year old ex-breeding Bichon Frise who has spent much of her life producing puppies. She is being fostered in RCT South Wales. Moo is a very trusting girl who loves a gentle fuss and a safe place to nap.

People – Moo loves people big and small. She wouldn’t like noisy toddlers but is happy with gentle older children and adults who allow her to relax and come for a fuss when she feels comfortable. She is frightened of being bathed and will shake with fear but this is all new to her.

Dogs – Moo would like an older calmer dog who will show her what being a pet dog is all about. She doesn’t really play as yet but does go to lay on the other foster dogs in the evenings when it’s time for bed

Cats – Not cat tested

In the home – Moo is a quiet girl around the house. Her toilet training is nearly there. She sleeps on a dog bed in the kitchen overnight with no issues. She is not yet playing with toys but does like soft treats. Moo could be left for shorter periods of time with another dog for company.

Out and about – Moo walks well on a lead but will only need gentle exercise. A short walk and time to potter is good for her. She is fine at the vets.

Type of home – Moo would like a quiet home with at least one resident dog who isn’t too bouncy. She can live with sensible children or a couple/individual who are /is happy with short gentle strolls with a companion and then settle down for a cuddle on the sofa

Moo is neutered, chipped, vaccinated and up to date with her flea and worming treatment. Potential adopters will be expected to travel to meet her in her foster home in RCT South Wales.

Name: Madge

Age: 3-years old

Breed: Miniature Schnauzer

Can I live with Children:

Can I live with cats:

Can I live with other dogs:

Fostered In: West Midlands

Madge is a 3-year old Miniature Schnauzer who is being fostered in the West Midlands. As an ex-breeder she is very nervous but her sweet character is shining through. She is looking for a home where she has another kind dog for company.

People – Madge is shy and is still finding her feet. She likes to know where her trusted humans are at all times and can be like a little shadow. She is fine with older children but no small, boisterous ones please.

Dogs –   Madge is fine with the Cavalier in her foster home and once she is used to walking on the lead we expect introductions to other dogs to go without a hitch.

Cats – Not cat tested

In the home – Madge is well behaved generally, although she does like to rip papers!  Toilet training has come along well with only an occasional accident now. She sleeps on her bed or on a sofa and chooses to sleep downstairs and she hasn’t been crate trained.  She eats well with if a little messy!  I’ve never seen her play with a toy, but they have appeared out of the box a couple of times so I think she will. I’ve left her for up to a couple of hours with no problems.

Out and about – Madge hasn’t yet been out and about that much as it is early days for her. She travels fine in the car and has been to the vets and coped admirably. Lead walking is all new to her as are regular walks but we are confident that she will get the hang of it all in no time.

Type of home – Madge is looking for a kind and patient home where she can gain in confidence and flourish at her own pace. Her family should be around for a lot of the day, but she may be suitable to live with someone who works part-days. Her adopters will need to be patient with her while she adjusts to living in a home and be able to continue the good work started in her foster home. Lead walking will also be a work in progress. Madge will need to live with another kind dog for company who can help show her what living as a pet is all about.

Madge is neutered, chipped, vaccinated and up to date with her flea and worming treatment. Potential adopters will be expected to travel to meet her in her foster home in the West Midlands.

Name: Teddy

Age: 10 months

Breed: Pug x Chihuahua

Can I live with Children: No under 5s

Can I live with cats: Not tested

Can I live with other dogs: Possibly

Fostered In: RCT, South Wales

Teddy is a 10-month old Pug x Chihuahua who is being fostered in RCT, South Wales. He is a delightful young dog. He can’t get enough attention and will lap up as much fuss as possible. The second you sit down he’s straight on your lap whether it be sofa, dinner table or computer chair.

People – Teddy loves people. He is a cuddle monster and will jump on your lap for a fuss the second you sit down. He will not be rehomed with children under five as he would be too much for them.

Dogs –  Although Teddy lives in a multi-dog house he does like to have all the fuss so would like to be the only dog in his new home or  at least live with an older dog who is happy to take a back seat while Teddy gets a large share of attention.

Cats – Teddy has not been tested with cats.

In the home – Teddy is a good boy in the home. He is toilet trained and not destructive at all. He sleeps quietly in a crate overnight and enjoys his toys. He doesn’t like to share his food with other dogs so supervision when feeding is needed if he isn’t the only dog. Teddy could be left for short periods. He is a bit vocal with other dogs so this will need further work.

Out and about – Teddy travels well in the car and enjoys going for walks. He is a bit vocal with other dogs so this will need further work. He isn’t aggressive just noisy and is fine if an off-lead dog runs up to him.

Type of home – Teddy would like a home where he is the centre of attention. He would be happy being an only dog and being allowed on the furniture to cuddle up to his human is a must. He likes going for leisurely strolls around the beach or local parks

Teddy is neutered, chipped, vaccinated and up to date with his flea and worming treatment. Potential adopters will be expected to travel to meet him in his foster home in RCT, South Wales

Can I live with cats: Not tested

Can I live with other dogs: Yes, a must

Fostered In: RCT, South Wales

Mouse is around 4 months old and is a Jack Russell terrier cross, who is being fostered in RCT, South Wales. Mouse is a quiet girl, having not had the best start to life, she is learning that people can be trusted.  Mouse loves to cuddle up with her furry friends and needs a confident dog to continue to help her build her confidence. She had a cheeky nature once she trusts and loves hiding her toys.  Digging is a favourite pastime of hers. Playing and sleeping are currently her favourite things to do

People – Mouse cannot be homed where young children reside or where very small children would visit. Due to her history this would put Mouse at risk of biting. Mouse does not like to be picked up.

Cats – Not tested

In the home – Mouse is housetrained and sleeps with her furry friends in the kitchen. Mouse loves her food and is happy to share. Mouse can be left for short periods. Mouse does not like a crate.

Out and about – She travels well in the car. Mouse is very nervous when meeting new people due to her history. She does not like people approaching over the top of her head, her Foster mum has been working on this, she now tolerates but is still scared.

Type of home – Mouse needs a home that will continue to teach her she is safe and give her time and patience. Mouse has a wonderful personality when she is given space to make friends when she feels safe. Mouse will not tolerate children as she is too nervous.

Mouse is chipped, vaccinated and up to date with her flea and worming treatment. She is not yet neutered and it will be a condition of her adoption that this is carried out by her adopters as soon as she is old enough. Discount voucher available and follow up checks will be done. Name: Hobbi

Age: 8-years old

Breed:  Yorkshire Terrier

Can I live with Children: No

Can I live with cats: Yes

Can I live with other dogs: Yes, a must

Fostered In: RCT South Wales

Hobbi is an 8-year old Yorkshire Terrier fostered in RCT, South Wales. He is a quiet, sweet boy who is terrified of the world. Having spent 8 years on a puppy farm he is understandably bewildered to have now found himself in a home.  He is desperate for love and will come to you for a gentle cuddle once he trusts you but any noise and he’s off hiding. Hobbi has a Grade 2-3 heart murmur

People – Initially Hobbi is frightened of everyone but given time he is learning to trust. Once you are sitting on the sofa he will stand with his front paws on waiting for you to lift him up for a gentle stroke. Any sudden noises and he’s off again though.  Hobbi would need a quiet home with no children running about and no shouting or sudden noises

Dogs –   Hobbi needs at least one quiet dog in his forever home to copy and learn from but he also likes his space and wouldn’t like to be jumped on so no young dogs please

Cats – Not tested but should be fine to live with a cat or small furry

In the home –  Hobbi is an easy dog to have around. He sleeps quietly in a crate on his own overnight and would be happy to be left for a few hours during the day. He can only eat wet food or pate due to having no teeth and loves some chicken. Initially when he came into foster he would shiver with fright at meal times and he has clearly never eaten from a bowl so a separate feeding area where you can sit with him and reassure him would be ideal.

Out and about –  Hobbi has never walked on the lead and is spooked by the big wide world so this will need to be worked on in his forever home once he has settled and he gains confidence

Type of home – Hobbi needs a quiet home where he can learn to trust at his own pace. It is essential he isn’t rushed as this will set him back. No noisy children and at least one other dog is a must. He would be a great companion for an older adopter who would like some company but doesn’t want to walk far

Hobbi is neutered, chipped, vaccinated and up to date with his flea and worming treatment. Potential adopters will be expected to travel to meet him in his foster home in South Wales

Name: Maggie

Age:- 4-5 years old

Breed: Yorkshire Terrier

Can I live with Children: Older

Can I live with cats: Not tested

Can I live with other dogs: Calm small dog

Fostered In: South Wales

Little Maggie is a 4-5 year old ex-breeding Yorkshire Terrier who is being fostered in South Wales. She is finding her feet in her foster home and is adopting to life in the home. Maggie is looking for a quiet home with a calm dog for company.

People – She is fine with people, but takes a few minutes to come around to new people. She will shake when unsure but is fine with being touched and brushed. She hasn’t met any young children but we feel Maggie would be happier in a quiet home.

Dogs –  Maggie would be better with a calm dog as a companion to show her how to be a dog, she doesn’t like bouncy energetic dogs as she gets scared

Cats – Not cat tested

In the home – Maggie is a very quiet dog, who is happy to sleep in a crate or on the sofa. She has only been left for a few hours and is fine. She prefers to eat in a quiet area away from other dogs. She is getting the hang of housetraining and is currently only having accidents overnight now.

Out and about – Maggie has only recently started going out on lead for short periods of time because she is scared of noise and sudden movements and the big wide world, but slowly exploring a little more each day. She is fine on short journeys hasn’t been on long journey in car yet. She was fine in vets

Type of home – Maggie needs a home that is calm; where she can build her confidence slowly. She is a nervous, scared little girl but is not aggressive at all. She would benefit from a calm dog to teach her how to be a dog and would not be suitable to live with small children at the moment. She is a lovely little dog I’m sure she will grow in confidence daily and become a relaxed happy little girl

Maggie is spayed, chipped, vaccinated and up to date with her flea and worming treatment. Potential adopters will be expected to travel to meet her in her foster home in South Wales

This is Lola. She was taken to the vets to be put to sleep. The vets got in touch with us and we agreed to try and help her.

We believe she has a condition that has caused part of her brain to fail to develop as it should. To get her the best possible help and ongoing care she needs an MRI so our vets can decide the best course of treatment for her. We need to raise a £1000 in the next few days.

She is just a baby. An amazing, funny, loving, bonkers little pup who doesn’t know she is very wonky and we need you to help us help her reach her full potential whatever that may be. So if you were going to have a few of these this weekend how about having one less and donating the savings you made to Lola because she is so very special.

You can follow the link to her fundrazr page and her story, you can donate through PayPal Foawales@aol.com or to our bank account or even call us and make a card payment over the phone. You can donate through Facebook. Saving lives is a daily challenge but we can do it with your support.

Now happily rehomed, three year old Labrador cross, Aslan, had a difficult start to his life. He came to us from abroad where he was found on the streets. He was in quite a state when he was found by his rescuers and needed immediate medical attention to one of his front legs.

Sadly his leg couldn’t be saved so he became a tripawd. This didn’t hold Aslan back in the slightest. He managed to adapt to his new life but we soon discovered in his foster home that he was quite the couch potato.

Due to his difficult past, Aslan had a few quirks. He wasn’t keen on other dogs and it took a lot of work and dedication from his foster family to help him to get used accepting other dogs in the home. He was also happier around men than women, which is fairly unusual in rescue dogs.

He had a couple of failed rehomings and was returned to us after a few days but this time, we are pleased to announce that he has found the perfect home with an amazing family.

They say good things come to those who wait and in Aslan’s case this is certainly true. We couldn’t let this success story pass without sharing the news with you and have included some heartwarming pictures of him in his new home. We couldn’t be prouder.

Name: Lola

Age: 9 months

Breed: Labrador Retriever

Can I live with Children: Older

Can I live with cats: Not tested

Can I live with other dogs: Yes, a must

Fostered In: South Wales

Lola is a very special 9-month old Labrador Retriever who is looking for a forever foster home. Please, please read very carefully and only complete an application form if you are 100% committed to providing this for her. Lola suffers from cerebellum hypoplasia and although medically fit she is unstable on her legs and requires physio and daily exercise to help her mobility. Due to this we would prefer her new home to be in South Wales to have easy access to our vets.

People – Lola is a loving dog and friendly with everyone she meets. We recommend older children only though who are able to understand and respect her condition.

Dogs – Lola would prefer a home where there is another dog for company.

Cats – Not tested

In the home – Lola does still have accidents in the house when she is excited but these are getting less and less. Her forever fosterers will have to be patient with her while she gets used to her new routine and new environment though. She will need somewhere with a reasonable amount of space both inside and outside the house to enable her to move around without injuring herself.

Out and about – Lola loves her walks and travels well in the car. She is happy to go to the vets too.

Type of home – Lola is looking for a forever foster home, where FoAW will remain her legal owners and will meet all the costs for ongoing medical needs. Her humans will need to be experienced dog owners and be willing to take advice about aspects of her care from the outset to help the transition to her forever foster home be a smooth one. She will need her humans to be home for most of the day, although she can be left for short periods in the company of other dogs.

Lola is not yet neutered, chipped, vaccinated and up to date with her flea and worming treatment. Potential adopters will be expected to travel to meet her in her foster home in South Wales. Please note that there is no adoption fee to pay for Lola, despite the application form below stating the donation amount.
