NEEDS LOVING PATIENT OWNERS WHO ARE AROUND MOST OF THE TIME
Peppa is a 3 year old Dachshund cross (no we’re not sure what with, don’t go on about it, move on she’s just a beautiful fur baby who needs a forever family). She’s about small spaniel size and described by her foster mum as a lovely girl that needs someone who will be patient with her as it will take time for her to trust her human.
Once settled in her home and she knows you are not going to hurt her she is loyal and cuddly. She is not aggressive at all but can give a nervous growl when she is unsure. She just needs a minute with gentle verbal coaching to relax and she will be fine. This completely stops when she trusts you.
She is cage trained and puts herself in this when she needs a break. She will need a cage in her forever home so she has a safe place to decompress if needed.
She can initially be nervous of strangers but if left alone to come around in her own time she will come and sit by you for reassurance gradually moving to see who the new person is. She will wag her tail but keeps her distance until she feels safe. Every interaction with new people needs to be a positive one so she must be allowed to make her own decisions on who she wants to be friends with.
She has not been tested with children in her foster home but we were told that she had previously lived with children. However, we would still recommend older dog savvy children.
She is not cat or small furry tested
Peppa is good in the home and will toilet outside. She enjoys a routine and this helps her settle. She needs a secure garden for sniffing and napping and once she feels safe she enjoys a snooze on the sofa. She does like going up onto things and will happily settle
Out and about Peppa will walk on a lead but needs a little more practice as she can be distracted by all the smells and distractions. In a secure field her recall is good but she does need further help and training away from this. She just needs someone who loves her enough to put some time and effort into her gently to help her.
Peppa needs a loving home with another sensible non nervous dog that will help her develop into the dog she should always have been. She will need time and patience to decompress and feel safe. Once relaxed and trusting her new owners can help her with her confidence and basic training.
