POTENTIAL ADOPTERS MUST TRAVEL TO MEET THE DOG WE DO NOT POST DOGS

CAN BE AN ONLY DOG IF HIS PEOPLE ARE AROUNDMOST OF THE TIME

COULD LIVE WITH ANOTHER ACTIVE DOG

NOT CAT TESTED

EXPERIENCES HOME WOULD BE IDEAL

NEEDS A SUPER ACTIVE HOME WITH A FAMILY WILLING TO PUT TIME INTO HIS TRAINING

Henry is an 18 month old Welsh Springer Spaniel cross Cavalier described by her foster mum as a lovely, loving, active and happy young man. He has been well loved and well looked after but unfortunately his previous owner’s health meant they weren’t able to keep up with his training and exercise needs so he came into foster.

Henry loves everyone wanting to meet them all and has been good with everybody he has met. He can initially be shy but with a gentle approach and preferably some treats he is soon your best friend.

Henry has been fine meeting children but due to his exuberant nature and his need to learn some manners we would not recommend small children as they may find him overwhelming.

He has not been cat tested but so far he has been indifferent to any he has met.

Henry is fully house trained and has been good in the home. He is an active boy who is still growing and sometimes needs time out to calm down and rest so will either cuddle up on your lap or go into his crate for a break and a power nap. He also sleeps overnight in a crate without a problem and will need a crate in his new home for him to feel relaxed.

Henry loves the garden and outdoors and will play outside quite happily with his foster sister or his toys. If he hears another dog bark he will join in so will need to be told that is not necessary. He is also on high alert to protect the house from invaders so will bark at anyone who gets too close, again he needs a firm NO to calm him down.

Henry loves to be with his people and will follow you around the house to see what you’re up to and when his foster sister is too tired to play he will often entertain himself with the toys. He has been left home alone in his crate for a couple of hours after being exercised with no issues but he would appreciate his people being with him as much as possible as that is what he is used to.

He loves his food and practically inhales it, and can be a little grabby with treats because he is so greedy so he is learning some manners and that will need to be reinforced in his new home. He also loves your food and will jump up at the table to try and share it! We have been working very consistently on stopping him from doing this so his new parents will need to carry this on or he will be quite the nuisance.

Henry is an active boy who enjoys his walks and adventures and needs regular long walks. He is however very distracted when he is on the lead and left to his own devices he zig zags back and forth, pulls and periodically jumps up. We have been working on this and he is responding but he will need further ongoing and consistent reward based training until he learns. Recall has been good in a secure field and as he is very food orientated and will happily return in exchange for treats.  He can sometimes get distracted by a bird but generally he responds very quickly when called, he is always checking to see if his person is there and looks for reassurance regularly when out.

Henry is looking for an active home that will take him on lots of adventures whilst putting time into his training. He will need kind but firm and consistent ongoing training to improve his lead walking especially and also to stop him jumping up. He can be an only dog with plenty of socialisation with other dogs and with his people home as much as possible. He could also live with another dog who can match his playfulness and activity levels. He would appreciate a good sized garden to run around in and chase his tennis ball. He can be homed with dog savvy older children who would be able to deal appropriately with his jumping up and his poor table manners whilst his training is ongoing. He might be able to live with a cat but would need further testing first to make sure.
