Wilf is a 15-month old Spaniel cross who is being fostered in RCT, South Wales. He is a typical playful pup. Wilf has poor vision and has had a couple of seizures possibly due to a head trauma suffered as a younger puppy. His seizures seem to be monthly so he needs someone who’s calm and won’t panic as they only last about a minute and then he’s disorientated for about 15 minutes after before he’s back to normal.
People – Wilf loves all people. He loves all contact and especially cuddles and lap time. As a puppy he is very playful so teenage children who are happy to play ball with him would be fantastic. He may be a bit boisterous for really small children.
Dogs – Yes he is friendly with dogs of different sizes and breeds. As a pup he may be too much for older, less mobile dogs
Cats – No cats please.
In the home – As Wilf has previously has some seizures it would be better if he was not left for long periods. He is not destructive at all and is happy to play with and share his toys with others. As will all owners of puppies know, it is best not to leave hanging wires, clothes and other temptations for Wilf. He will try to test boundaries so he will need a family that are prepared to work with him. They may also need to adjust their day to day routines a little – don’t leave things in easy reach on the worktops etc and keep an eye on him so he doesn’t pinch the cutlery out of the sink. Once Wilf gets an idea in his head there is no shifting it and he will test boundaries.
Out and about – Wilf walks well on the lead. He is nervous of large lorries or bin lorries. He enjoys a game of chase with the other dogs and also playing ball with his human friends although he’s not yet giving it back for you to throw again. He loves to explore and sniff off lead in woodlands if there’s nothing about as he gets very frightened if off lead dogs run up to him and will bolt.
Type of home – Wilf would suit a wide range of homes but would need a family where he is not left for long periods of time. He can live with or without another dog and would like walks away from too much traffic. He likes a large garden that he can potter around and play and a comfy sofa to curl up on of an evening. Older children are fine but he may be too bouncy for younger ones. A family who can accept that Wilf is essentially handicapped and like any dog he will need to be given time to settle and not be a ready made fit.
Wilf is neutered, chipped, vaccinated and up to date with his flea and worming treatment. Potential adopters will be expected to travel to meet him in his foster home in Rhondda, South Wales
