Lovable Magic is a 1-year old female Jack Russell, who is being fostered in Newport. She is a former puppy farm dog who has made significant progress on the road to rehabilitation after being left for dead until we rescued her. She will need patient owners who will allow her time to build up a bond with them and needs to live with an older female dog to give her reassurance and guidance.

People – Magic is so much better with people than when she first arrived but she is still a very nervous dog. She will occasionally take treats from a stranger but she is very fussy about who she will take them from.

Dogs – Magic adores other dogs and needs at least one to live with for confidence and play. She lives with a variety of dogs in her foster home and is more confident when with them. She looks up to her 3-year old female Shepherd companion who has looked after her and guided her to be a dog. She needs a similar companion for her to feel safe and to continue this.

Cats – Magic is fine with cats and currently has two cats in her foster home who she lives alongside with no issues. Initially, she used to bark at them a lot but she has no aggression towards them and is now just quietly curious about them.

In the home – Magic still feels very nervous in the home and needs time and space for her to find her place. She very rarely will sit with you of her own volition but she’s happy to sit with you and be gently fussed without running away if you pick her up. She will need patient owners who will allow her to have a balance of attention and free will.

Out and about – Magic eventually walks well on a lead, but she is very difficult to catch and will initially try and get away. Using a slightly longer line, she will eventually settle. Magic’s favourite place is to be outside in the open. She’s a hardy terrier and runs around with her doggie friends with no inhibitions. And prospective owners will need to test their ability to recall her in a secure area at first before letting her run free. As she looks up to her Shepherd companion, she has been easy to recall but not necessarily captures. By leaving a long line on her, it makes catching her easier. Magic is always keen to get out and about and sits by the gate to have her harness on. She travels well in the car but has a tendency to bark at anyone walking past with a pushchair.

Type of home – Magic was petrified on arrival in to foster but has made huge strides in her confidence. Having another dog, preferably an older female, is essential to support her rehabilitation. She walks around 4 miles each day and loves to run and play. She is very active and would be most suited to a rural environment or owners who will get her out and about to a rural location daily. New owners must not expect too much from her too soon and she will need time to settle. Her house must be 100% secure otherwise she’s likely to escape because of her initial nervousness.

Please remember, if you have a dog and it is not neutered, it is against our policies to re-home a dog with you.

Magic is due to be neutered shortly and is chipped, vaccinated and up to date with her flea and worming treatment. Potential adopters will be expected to travel to the Newport area to meet her.
