Seven-year old Ivy is an ex-breeding Shih Tzu who is being fostered in South Wales.
People – Ivy can be nervous at first when meeting new people but responds well to a gentle approach. She is happy to be groomed and will sit patiently to have her face and eyes washed. Ivy can become rather fearful in new situations.
Dogs – Ivy does require the company of another dog to give her confidence and support and to learn from. She is at present in a foster home with a very active 4-year old dachshund cross whom she loves to bits. She is very comfortable around other dogs and is totally unfazed by visiting dogs
Cats – Not tested
In the home – House training is ongoing but she is confident using puppy pads in one particular area. Ivy sleeps downstairs in the kitchen where she has complete freedom and choice of beds. She gets very excited to see people and her doggy friend in the mornings. Ivy is not at all destructive and although she doesn’t play with toys, has a collection of cuddly animals that she likes to carry around. She can be left for up to 4/5 hours without any problems but given treats and chews as compensation. She has a dog biscuit for breakfast which she loves, treats throughout the day and a meal in the evening. She can become a bit anxious at mealtimes as she seems to fear that it will be taken away from her.
Out and about – Ivy walks nicely on the lead but is still learning to enjoy being out and about. She travels with a safety harness in the back seat but finds it stressful. Although she is very compliant at the vets, she is very fearful. With more positive experiences with car travel, Ivy will soon see this as a more positive experience.
Type of home – Ivy would benefit from a home with at least one other dog for company and as a role model. She has benefited from a number of people visiting and making her feel more confident with human company but in the long term would be more suited to a quieter environment and someone who’s around most of the day.
Ivy is neutered, chipped, vaccinated and up to date with her flea and worming treatment. Potential adopters will be expected to travel to meet her in her foster home in South Wales.
