Only dog

No Children

Family willing to work with his issues

Reactive and flat faced experience

Dennis is selective on who he likes and dislikes and any prospective owners will need to visit him a few times to see if you stand up to his high expectations in a forever human

Fostered in Crewe

Dennis is a 3 year old loveable French Bulldog who is menace by name and menace by nature! Dennis has a number of complex behaviour issues but had come on so much in his foster home. He loves treats and will do anything for a biscuit. He is a frenchie that underneath his tough guy image is a very misunderstood dog that has had a traumatic past. This has now led him to have stress coping strategies that need managing daily. Dennis can wave with his paw and loves nothing more than a nap on your lap

Dennis since coming into rescue has had BOAS surgery and both knees repaired so currently has no health issues. New owners should be flat faced experienced to accommodate for any future health issues that are common with his breed. Owners will need to research pet insurance quotes prior to application as typically flat faced breeds have higher premiums and any prospective owners need to be in a position to have pet insurance in place.

When Dennis knows you he is a very affectionate frenchie who can get stressed easily which presents itself as him being reactive to people. He is a very temperamental little man that has previously had it very difficult. New owners will need to give him time to settle and be prepared to distract him when he displays anxious behaviours and not encourage or ignore them. Dennis can be a very cuddly frenchie but also likes his own space and this should be respected as when he needs his own space he can react if he feels under pressure.

Due to his mischievous behaviours we would not home Dennis with any children.

Although Dennis lives with other dogs in his foster home he would prefer to be an only dog. He can be possessive over food and toys, and can easily get wound up when other dogs are playing so he would be best suited as an only dog but who socialises with dogs outside the home.

Dennis lives with a dog savvy cat with no issue currently

Dennis will go into a crate but is very anxious when the door is shut so we are currently working on desensitising him so he’s less reactive to the door. When anxious he will destuff dog beds so this will need managing in his new home. He loves toys and will play with them. He can be food and dog reactive so owners will need to be prepared to work with him on this and give him time to settle in. Dennis is fine being left

Dennis walks well on a harness and doesn’t pull. He can be a bit reactive to some dogs on leads, but this is currently managed and he is much improved compared to when he first came in. Dennis does not like travelling and can be very vocal when in the car. He also gets very anxious at the vets and should be handled carefully as he can be reactive.

Dennis is a loveable but temperamental little character, he deserves a home where people will work with him and give him time to settle in. He can be reactive so a family experienced in reactivity or flat faces is especially important. Dennis has obviously had a troubled past and is a dog so desperate to love, he just needs to learn he doesn’t have to react when he’s anxious or worried. Dennis would love a sofa to nap on, a human that will put in the work with him (and feed the occasional treat). Due to his knee surgery Dennis needs a home that will gradually build up his fitness levels and be aware of flat faced breathing problems.

Children aged 7 and over

Active family

Another active playful fur baby as a companion

Fostered in South Wales

Tommy is a handsome 12 week old ball of fluff that will grow into a Bichon Frise. He is confident and playful loving nothing more than playing tug of war and chewing his toys. He is an inquisitive pup who enjoys exploring the garden, playing with other dogs in his foster home and meeting new people who will fuss him.

Tommy loves a cuddle but being a baby he also likes his own space and will happily spend time with his toys alone.
He has been left alone with the other dogs in the house for a couple of hours at a time and has been fine and gives a lovely greeting on your return!

Currently his favourite hobby is pinching shoes and as a typical pup he likes to chew everything! Distracting him with high interest toys works a treat! Tommy enjoys zooming around the garden and chasing balls but hasn’t got the hang of ‘fetch’ yet!

He sleeps in the kitchen with the other dogs at night and is mostly using the puppy pads to toilet but this is a work in progress and there are understandably some accidents. He eats well and enjoys an occasional treat showing no food aggression.
He travels well in a crate in the car.

Tommy is very sociable and likes to be handled. He has behaved very well at bath time and has enjoyed being groomed.

Tommy has been introduced to children of different ages but we feel children aged 7 and over would be best for this active fluff ball. He has enjoyed playing with them and being cuddled.

Tommy is sociable and playful with other dogs in the house but hasn’t met any other dogs outside as he is too young for walks. He has behaved very well at the vets.

Tommy has a great temperament for a baby but would benefit from another playful fur baby to continue his education. He is going to need an active home who have enough time to spend training him to be the perfect pet.

Male 12 weeks old

DOTTY

We are trying to get more photos but as you can see Dotty is a silly girl!

Reference No – D2020 – 108

Name: Dotty

Age: 6 years old

Breed: Cockerpoo

Fostered in: South Wales

Dotty loves life and everyone. She is happy to follow you around having a nose at what’s going on but equally loves a good snooze on the sofa. Dotty is very keen to pleased but sometimes can forget her manners. Dotty loves life and has two speeds – slow or super-fast! There’s nothing in between with our darling Dotty. She has a huge character and needs someone with experience of dogs that is willing to work on socialization around other dogs.

Health issues: None known

People: Dotty interacts well with people she knows. She can come across as overconfident at times and needs to be reminded that she can’t jump into your arms until you’re ready for her.
Dotty looks for guidance from her foster mum particularly when out on a walk . She is nervous around strange things and will bark in fear. However, lately with some specific training she has made great progress in this area. This is still a work in progress.

Can live with children: Dotty can not live with children.

Can live with cats: Not tested

Can live with other dogs: Dotty gets on well with the current dogs in her foster home, but this is because interactions are well managed. Dotty is starting to learn to play but can be over boisterous and needs to be monitored. She is scared of dogs she doesn’t know and will bark in fear. Dotty will be best suited with a calm confident male dog. Dotty would be suitable and prefer to live on her own without another dog in the house. However, she will need to continue her socialization outside of the home with calm and well-balanced dogs who can teach her how to be and about good manners.

In the home: Dotty is house trained. She has a crate that she uses when her foster family are out. She is happy in her crate and currently eats in it as she has previously had issues around food guarding. Dotty will guard some favourite toys and her place on the sofa at times with the other dogs.
She had not shown any issues when foster mum has taken toys off her or asked her to move over / off the sofa. Issues around guarding are more related to sharing her family with other dogs. Dotty has been left for up to 3 hrs in her large crate with a lick mat and she has been completely fine. She will sleep in the crate at night and eats in the crate

Out and about: Dotty travels well in a car crate in the boot.
When out on the lead she walks nicely on a collar or harness. However, when she sees other dogs she has over last few weeks started to react with barking. Some of this can be excited barking but at times she is unpredictable as she is also very fearful of many dogs. Her new family will need to continue with the training of this issue.

Type of home: Dotty needs a home that understands or is willing to learn about dog behaviour around fear and poor socialization. Her new home will need to read her body language which is very clear when she is worried. Dotty looks for support to help her with anxiety. She needs clear direction and guidance – someone with time to train her and work around her fear issues. Firm, fair and consistency works well for Dotty as she then knows the boundaries. She will then stick to them with just a few reminders needed during new experiences or when she forgets herself.
Dotty wants to be loved and to please her foster mum. She loves to be told she is a good girl.
Dotty loves to be outside so an active owner who loves walking would be great for Dotty.

Dotty is Fully vaccinated, neutered and up to date with flea and worming treatment.

Potential adopters will be expected to travel to South Wales to meet her.

Name: Oscar

Age: 4 years old

Breed:  Border terrier

Fostered in: South Wales

Health conditions: None

Oscar is a delightful, friendly and playful 4 year old. He loves people and especially loves other dogs. He loves to walk and does not pull on his lead. He also likes to sleep throughout the night, and is house trained. He likes to eat dry food twice a day and will lift his paw and sit when enjoying a little treat.

People: Oscar likes to be around people. He likes to be smoothed and likes to play ball. He loves to be brushed and stands still when placing him into his harness and when taking it off.

Can live with children: He has met children but does not live with any at the moment. He has not shown any aggressive tendencies.

Can live with cats: Oscar does not really seem to like cats and would chase them if he could.

Can live with other dogs: Oscar meets other dogs every day whilst out walking and always appears eager to play. He likes to greet other dogs and is very relaxed about their presence.

In the home: Oscar is housetrained, he asks to toilet outdoors. He has a bed in the kitchen and sleeps throughout the night. He would love to have his own sofa or chair and in fact he would also like a double bed upstairs but has come to understand that this is not possible.

Out and about: Oscar likes to travel on the back seat with his seatbelt harness. He likes to look outside and travels without sickness or crying. He is excellent at the vet and is very good when out walking, but he is not keen on motorbikes and will bark at them but is learning quickly that this is not necessary.

Type of home: Ideally Oscar would like a canine companion to play with, or at least someone who is able to spend a good part of the day with him as he is a sociable boy.

Oscar has had first vaccination and is up to date with his flea and worming treatment. He is currently awaiting second vaccination and neutering.

Due to Covid19 lock down restrictions, we are only accepting local re homing applications.

Potential adopters will be expected to travel to South Wales to meet him.

Downing Street’s new top dog

Friends of Animals Wales is a small animal charity in the Welsh Valleys. Our founder Eileen Jones has
dedicated much of her life to rescuing animals who desperately need a second chance in life. Friends of
Animals Wales is run solely by volunteers and we work around the clock to make a difference to the animals who may not have had a good start in life.
Over the years we have saved many hundreds of puppy farm breeding dogs and puppies; dogs and puppies who are invariably unwell, often with life-limiting conditions. It is heartbreaking and difficult work and sometimes despite our best efforts and those of the dedicated vets we work with, all we can do is give these poor souls a dignified, compassionate death surrounded by love and care.
It takes its toll on us emotionally and of course financially as these are dogs that have rarely been afforded any physical or psychological care in their lives. Our vet bills are astronomical and we constantly struggle to raise the funds to pay them.
The puppy farm breeding dogs have so often been exploited for their pups, puppies that have for decades been bought by the public across England. So, if you’ve bought a pup without seeing the mum, we may just be caring for your own dog’s mother or father right now.
There are also those dogs who are not suitable for adoption but who still deserve the chance to live out their days in a loving environment with the best quality of life possible. Those are our ‘wonky’ dogs and they stay with us at what we call ‘Wonky Towers’ for the rest of their lives.
We knew that Carrie Symonds has always been a huge animal welfare advocate and we are absolutely
overjoyed that this gorgeous pup will be living his best life with Carrie and the Prime Minister at their
Downing Street home. To think our little ’wonky’ pup started his life in a Welsh puppy farm and was destined for an uncertain existence at the hands of a puppy dealer, but is now going to be with people who absolutely adore him is a dream come true. This little man will want for nothing in his life, what could be better than that? And how fantastic to be raising the profile of rescue dogs everywhere in the process!
Friends of Animals Wales has been proud to be part of the Lucy’s Law team alongside Marc Abraham and
C.A.R.I.A.D. – and our relief when Michael Gove confirmed in the gardens of Downing Street, surrounded by our own puppy farm survivors, that Lucy’s Law was to become a reality in England was incredible. We’re still waiting for a date from the Welsh Government for the introduction of this new law but praying for the dogs that it is soon. And of course, we’re keeping everything crossed for the puppy farm dogs in Scotland that the government there will also make the right decision north of the border shortly.
We know only too well why Lucy’s Law is such an important piece of legislation because we pick up the pieces of third-party puppy selling every day. The suffering of these dogs is unimaginable unless you see it
first-hand as we have done for so many sad years.
We would like to thank Carrie and the Prime Minister for opening their hearts and their home to a puppy farm survivor and for inviting Friends of Animals Wales back to Downing Street once again. We wish them a lifetime of happiness with their new best friend.

Friends of Animals Wales is desperately trying to purchase our first property to help facilitate the rescue
and rehabilitation of more animals in need: In particular with the increasing number of ex puppy farm dogs
being surrendered to the rescue as a result of the impending changes to legislation (Lucy’s Law).
We have located suitable premises in South Wales, with land and outbuildings where we can create a haven for all our rescue animals including a specialist rehabilitation area to help puppy farm survivors.
Before we can do this, we need to settle our outstanding vet bills, currently standing at approximately
£36,000 and increasing by the day, averaging £8,000 per month plus specialist referral costs. No animal has ever been turned away by us because they were too expensive to help. Every penny donated by the public will go directly to help the animals.

This is Lola. She was taken to the vets to be put to sleep. The vets got in touch with us and we agreed to try and help her.

We believe she has a condition that has caused part of her brain to fail to develop as it should. To get her the best possible help and ongoing care she needs an MRI so our vets can decide the best course of treatment for her. We need to raise a £1000 in the next few days.

She is just a baby. An amazing, funny, loving, bonkers little pup who doesn’t know she is very wonky and we need you to help us help her reach her full potential whatever that may be. So if you were going to have a few of these this weekend how about having one less and donating the savings you made to Lola because she is so very special.

You can follow the link to her fundrazr page and her story, you can donate through PayPal Foawales@aol.com or to our bank account or even call us and make a card payment over the phone. You can donate through Facebook. Saving lives is a daily challenge but we can do it with your support.

Now happily rehomed, three year old Labrador cross, Aslan, had a difficult start to his life. He came to us from abroad where he was found on the streets. He was in quite a state when he was found by his rescuers and needed immediate medical attention to one of his front legs.

Sadly his leg couldn’t be saved so he became a tripawd. This didn’t hold Aslan back in the slightest. He managed to adapt to his new life but we soon discovered in his foster home that he was quite the couch potato.

Due to his difficult past, Aslan had a few quirks. He wasn’t keen on other dogs and it took a lot of work and dedication from his foster family to help him to get used accepting other dogs in the home. He was also happier around men than women, which is fairly unusual in rescue dogs.

He had a couple of failed rehomings and was returned to us after a few days but this time, we are pleased to announce that he has found the perfect home with an amazing family.

They say good things come to those who wait and in Aslan’s case this is certainly true. We couldn’t let this success story pass without sharing the news with you and have included some heartwarming pictures of him in his new home. We couldn’t be prouder.

On This Morning TV

When Volunteers sign up to be Fosters they know there may be some challenges but appearing on television doesn’t usually come in the job description.

Today the lovely Lynn Taylor foster mum to Bridgette and who also happens to be our Cat Coordinator travelled to London and did a wonderful job promoting adoption on ITV This Morning. Well done Lynn you were brilliant and a very special well done to Bridgette who was a total star. #adoptdontshop

Please say a special hello to Colin and Noel, two very gorgeous guinea pigs.

These two boys came to us from the same sad situation but had been kept separately. They are now fully bonded which has truly brought their personalities to the fore – they might be small but what they lack in statue they make up for in personality and are both very cheeky!

Colin (ginger and white) and Noel (black) are neutered and now ready to find their perfect forever home together. They need to be kept indoors during the winter with plenty of space to play and explore. These two are looking for more than the minimal welfare size area as they both appreciate enough space to be able to have some ‘alone time’ every so often (I’m pretty sure we’re all a bit like that!) When Colin was neutered, the vet found a lump and he had a little op to have it removed. It was nothing serious – and he is now back to his usual degree of fluffiness! Having got to know these two boys very well, Foster Mum Christine thinks they would be happiest in a home with previous experience of guinea pigs. They occasionally try to nip when being picked up so aren’t really suitable for young children.

If you think you can give these two little furry bundles of fun the forever home they are looking for together then please click on the link below and fill in the adoption application form (ignoring the fact that it says Rabbit!): Adoption Form

Name: Rufus

Age: c. 7 years old

Breed: Chihuahua X

Can I live with Children: No

Can I live with cats: No

Can I live with other dogs: Yes, but preferably only one other at most.

Fostered: Newport

Rufus is a 7-year old Chihuahua cross who is being fostered in Newport, South Wales. He is a lovable but confused little dog. He is generally okay around other dogs with food (he guards his own bowl as any dog does) but can get over aroused when humans are eating; as a result, is learning to be in a crate while humans are eating.

People – Rufus has not been aggressive towards humans whilst he has been fostered. He will nip his foster mummy but only in a playful way. This does take a certain amount of time to get used to if you’re not used to playful biting. He is learning lots of games and self control so with time and training he will stop this.

Dogs – Rufus has shown that he enjoys the company of other dogs. However, he can display odd characteristics when he is around them. He seems to mostly want to play but can appear as though he is displaying aggression through his nervousness. Whilst he shows these behaviours, he backs down and squeals if reprimanded by the other dog.

Cats – Rufus currently lives with two cats and can be aggressive towards them. When he can’t get to them, he will bark lots, so NO cats

In the home – Rufus will get annoyed if you are fussing other dogs and this can be displayed by his barking, growling and nipping. However, he will settle eventually and enjoys having a fuss, again this is a work in progress and his new owners are expected to continue with his training in a positive way He is toilet trained although initially, may wee in the house until he finds his paws.

Out and about – Rufus has been off the lead a few times and generally recalls well. It seems when he becomes tired, he wants to do his own thing and can be a bit harder to recall. He walks well on the lead but likes nothing more than running around with his foster siblings, especially on the beach.

Type of home – Rufus is difficult to read so requires an owner that will be patient with him while he settles. Were he an only dog, he would bond strongly with his human. He’d be fine with another dog, though any more than that is likely to overwhelm him. Any perspective owner will have to accept his tendency to be a bit of a barker and potential biter especially if they fail him by not continuing his training.

Please remember, if you have a dog and it is not neutered, it is against our policies to re-home a dog with you.

Rufus is neutered and is chipped, vaccinated and up to date with his flea and worming treatment. Potential adopters will be expected to travel to the Newport area to meet him ideally a few times before making a commitment to such a loving but confused boy.

Jasmine is described by her foster mum as a funny old lady and at 14 years old why not. She appears to have been an only cat in her past life and will need to remain so when she finds her new home.  Jasmine doesn’t really socialise she likes to know that you are there and this gives her comfort but she is her own lady and very independent. The funny thing is though despite being independent she likes to sleep on your bed all night. During the day Jasmine likes to spend her time looking out of the window or sleeping. She does however love to be brushed and is vocal in a nice way when she is brushed. Jasmine’s favourite food is Tuna. Overall Jasmine is a sweet natured, chilled kitty who loves being groomed and fussed on her own terms

So you all know we love bunny bonding at FOAW, firmly believing that – apart from the odd exception (there’s always one isn’t there Mr Benjamin White?!) – rabbits are far happier with a friend of their own kind. And, although our bunny bonders are extremely experienced, it is always an anxious time (think parent hovering when youngest child brings first suitor home!).  Will they like each other?  Are they behaving themselves?!  The only difference being our bonders are delighted to see licking of heads…. Parents I imagine not so much!!

Anyway, I’m rabbiting on…. Can you imagine our excitement when two lone bunnies did it all by themselves!  Fabulous foster mum Leanne sets the scene:

Mop was handed into FOAW after he was found as a stray in Porth. Straight away he was a friendly and calm fella, but he had matted fur, very long nails and slightly long teeth – all quickly sorted out with a visit to the vets (poor Mop got slightly more than he bargained for as we obviously took the opportunity to have him neutered!). However, he was a bit of a worry as he started to lose weight.  Back to the vets, who did loads of tests which were all absolutely normal and it was put it down to him having gone through so much and being lonely.

Then along came Petra. She was surrendered to us by a lovely lady who had numerous animals and felt she could not give them the care they deserved, so selflessly contacted us.  Petra was in good condition but very nervous”

Now I need to tell you that Leanne has simply the best set up for rabbits, and they all have loads of space to explore and binky around the garden. Leanne says that Mop was in his element but poor Petra was petrified of the large garden on her own and would hide under a hutch the whole time.

Leanne continues “Mop showed great interest in Petra, so I decided to introduce them, and they fell in love instantly. They still had their own separate runs but they would always spend time close to one another.  Then one morning, I found Mop in Petra’s run, laying together – and that was that – they were an item – self bonded – obviously it was meant to be and Mop’s a determined little fella”.

Now Petra has Mop, she is becoming much braver and starting to enjoy life, and Mop continues to just be Mop! They are used to having the run of Foster Mum’s garden so have high demands when it comes to space to run about.  The more space they have, the happier they are and they are simply a delight to watch enjoying playing with each other.  Prepare for much time spent just watching rabbits!

They are both excellent hay eaters so, as with all rabbits, will need an endless supply. Mop will need to be brushed more than most rabbits because of his fabulous fur – or as Leanne puts it – long auburn flowing locks!

Mop and Petra are both fully vaccinated and spayed/neutered and are now looking for their perfect forever home together. So, if you’re looking for a ready made pair of extremely gorgeous rabbits, look no further – just click on the link below and fill in the adoption application form:
